Welcome to Kathy's Kupboard
As the World becomes more unpredictable and scary, the special holiday times with friends and family become even more precious. The goal of Kathy's Kupboard is to provide everything necessary to allow you to plan wonderful, magical holiday get togethers.
How Do You Get Ready for Spring?
I must admit that even though I now live in Florida, I still look forward to Spring. Of course, it doesn't have the same impact as feeling the first warm rays of the sun after months of cold and snow. However, the urge to air out, spruce up and revitalize is the same no matter where you live. Changing over accents and accessories to lighter colors is an easy inexpensive way to start switching from Winter to Spring.
Personally, the color that says Spring to me is yellow!

Decorating the Front Porch for Fall
Let's face it, the front porch or steps are the first thing people see when friends and family drop by or when neighbors walk or drive by.Now is the time to think about how you can make yours special.
This is one of my favorite fall decorating ideas. The Pumpkin Planter was pictured in last years Garden Gate magazine.
After you have cut an opening in the top large enough to hold a 8" plastic pot, scoop out the insides and cut a 1" drainage hole in the bottom. Then seal the pumpkin by spraying the inside with Wilt-Pruf, especially around the hole. This will help prevent wilting.
To plant the plastic pot, place a little potting mix in the bottom of the pot. To fit in as many plants as possible, flatten each root ball before you tuck it in, then fill in any spaces with more mix. (the plants shown in the picture are 2 types of Kale, Pansy, & Cape Daisy).
Once everything is planted, water well and let it drain completely before placing it in the pumpkin. Repeat this step each time you water to prevent rotting in the bottom of the pumpkin.
Now you can certainly see how easily this could be transformed to a Halloween display. Add a Jack-O-Lantern or two, a black crow or two and you're all set.
Until next time,
Kathy
Fall Decorating Continued
The versatile set of crows from Mark Roberts can be used in many ways to enhance the fall decorations that you are putting out now.The bittersweet sprays shown below can take you from now thru Thanksgiving, as can the wreath shown here.
Just add the crows or a big black spider and you're ready for Halloween!
Next time we will take a look at the front porch.
Until next time, Kathy
IS IT TIME TO START PLANNING FOR HALLOWEEN???
The surge in Halloween decorating over the last several years, may have a lot to do with the fact that Halloween has evolved from a holiday that was once celebrated only one day of the year to a fall celebration.Over the next few days I'd like us to take a look at how we can start with fall decorating anytime after Labor Day, as soon as the cooler mornings and earlier evening sunsets tell us the time is right.
Then we can look at some easy examples (like the one shown) of how to turn early fall into Halloween then into late fall/Thanksgiving.
Until then, Kathy
