A Keen Tale

In Fall 2006, I found myself in downtown Northampton, suddenly remembering I needed to be home in less than twenty minutes. What was the problem? My place was about a mile away, I wanted to be home with time to spare, and my wife had the car.Clearly, I soundly decided, I had to run. Looking down, I considered my footwear -- a pair of Keen Briggs. Oxford-type shoes are not ideal for a jog, I know.
I thought about how my trail running shoes were also Keens. Kneeling to adjust my shoestrings, I said to myself, "These shoes can do this. Run!"
Up I stood. Run I did.
Granted, the shoes felt heavier than my regular runners. I knew clearly I was running in a shoe meant for walking and hiking. That said, this larger-than-average man on tar macadam ran.
Soon enough, I was home, and in time for my engagement. Today, 18 months later, I own those same shoes -- and another pair of Briggs -- and wear them as my principal black shoes.
The Briggs is keen.
