Keeping Your Baby Safe at Home
Babies are very curious creatures and by the tine they reach six months old, they can be the most active and uncontrollable explorers. This is the time when your child will be curious about everything around him or her. Your baby will surely want to get hold of everything that is intriguing to their point of view. This is why you will need to implement some baby proof measures around your home.
The nursery alone is filled with clutter that a baby can be curious about. Having a dresser can help you with that problem. You can hide accessories and items that you use with the baby such as powder, lotion, towel, socks, and many others in the drawers of your dresser. You can also use the dresser to store your baby's clothes, bed sheets, diapers, sleep wear and many more.
To be on the safe side, get some drawer locks or latches. These items can prevent your baby from opening drawers - especially when they are within your child's access. This will also help you prevent the baby from getting in them. Having drawer locks or latches can also prevent the occurrence of having your child pull out a drawer on top of himself or herself.
Furniture straps and wall bolting are also good preventive measures especially if you have large dressers or cabinets in the room. As children learn to walk, some of them grab hold to nearby furniture in order to get support. If you have furniture straps or wall bolts then these dressers cannot topple over in case your child suddenly puts their weight on them.
Try to check and see if there are any visible outlets in the room. Place plastic outlet plugs in them so that your baby will not be able to poke in objects in the electric sockets.
If you notice any loose cords or wires from electric items such as a night lamp, make sure that you hide them or cover them so that your baby will not yank on them.
If you have a heating vent in the room, you have to make sure that it is sealed and fastened tightly on the floor. Place a table or a chair over the vent so that your baby will not get any accidental burns from it.
The floor can be very dangerous to your baby as well. You have to make sure that it is free of clutter. Take a close look and make sure that you get rid of small objects so that your baby will not choke on them.
Although it may be impossible for your child to reach the windows, you can use window wedges just in case. Kids are getting smarter each day and they will always find ways when it comes to exploring their surroundings. Having a window wedge ensures that then windows will not be open too wide.
Creating a safe environment for your baby to grow up in is a very important obligation that you should not neglect. A baby proof room would allow you to give your baby more freedom to crawl around and have fun.
