Who is Kevin So

When I was in college my on-campus job was working for stage crew. It wasn't through the theater department, but through our Campus Entertainment Network. That was an amazing job...perfect for me. One of the options was working our Coffee Concerts where local singer songwriters would come and perform. I would set up the stage area, talk to the performers and then sit and watch the show. When it was over I'd get to talk to them again as I'd break down for the night. I got to see new and rising talent up close. I quickly became addicted to the New England folk scene.

One of my favorites early on was Kevin So. I don't recall the date when I first saw him. But I remember he played once, then months later I saw him on television. Later, during my final year of school (so it was 1999), he came back to play another Coffee Concert. I had recognized him and told him I remembered him performing and how much I liked his music and we started talking. We clicked right away and ended up becoming friends. After I graduated we would hang out and I'd go to shows with him. Really fun times.

He moved from Boston to Chicago and we lost touch for a while. He later moved to New York and I've gotten to see him play a few times when he's out this way. It's hard now since I'm no longer a young college student or recent grad with free time and minimal responsibilities. I'm a wife and a mom and I don't live quite so close to Boston anymore so it's hard to get out to shows. But now and then I can swing it and I always enjoy his concerts.
