Khotan Rugs and carpets are produced in Western China. Khotan or Hotan as some call it is an oasis town on the edge of the Taklamakan desert. It is an area where water means life and for ages people live where the Oasis' make it possible. The people are primarily West Yugur (also Uighur or Uyghur). These weavers are related to the Uzbek. This is opposed to the East Yugur who are related to the Mongols and weave far less.
