Give Your Cat A Longer Life With Early Recognition of A Problem Kidney In A Cat
Now that our pets are fed from bags and cans, kidney failure has become the second leading cause or death in cats. Chronic tubulointerstitial nephritis is the most common cause of a problem kidney in a cat, but there are other diseases too.
If you think your cat is having a kidney problem, don't procrastinate getting a proper diagnosis. Like every serious medical condition, problems such as nephritis (inflammation of a kidney in a cat) are easier to prevent than cure.
Talk with a holistic veterinarian about steps you can take to lengthen your cat's life and consider alternative medicines to support a problem kidney in a cat.

- Pyelonephritis: This is a bacterial infection in the kidney in cats.It may be caused by a pre-existing feline urinary problem or bladder infection. That condition caused the bacteria to proliferate in the kidney.
- Glomerulonephritis: This is a breakdown in the immune processes in the glomeruli which occurs when a secondary disease causes antibodies to get lodged in the glomeruli, which is part of the kidney in a cat....

Treating A Problem Kidney In A Cat
Strategies
What your vet will do...
Your cat needs rehydration. The vet will inject fluids under your cat's skin. This is also known as giving subcutaneous fluids. This rehydrates your cat and encourages the production of urine which flushes toxins out of your cat.
Next, since many cats become anemic due to poor nutrition your vet may give your cat a erythropoietin injection that elevates your cat's red blood cell counts. Since nausea is a common symptom, you cat may get a dose of famotidine to reduce the stomach acid. If your cat refuses food and is hospitalized then nutritional support is done through tube or intravenous feeding.
