Dollar Card Marketing Tips

Dollar cards are one of the secret weapons used by successful marketers. They're also referred to as drop cards, because they are literally dropped off in discreet locations. Unlike plain drop cards and sizzle cards that offer a simple advertising message -- like a headline, phone number and website -- dollar cards resemble cash. They attract a lot of attention, and are more likely to be kept by the finder. Even if a dollar card is discarded or ignored, it's likely another person will happen upon it.

Dollar card marketing works great for real estate agents, restaurants, car dealerships, job recruiters, financial planners, insurance agents, MLM and network marketing representatives, and any business that needs to develop local leads.

Where do you leave dollar cards? Here are a few places that marketers have found to be successful:

The Supermarket: Leave a few dollar cards at the magazine rack, tucked inside money and success magazines.

The Bookstore: Place a dollar card inside popular business and success books.

The Airport: Leave dollar cards in money magazines and success books at the magazine kiosk, in restaurant areas, and waiting lounges. If you'll also be flying, leave several on the airplane in magazines and in the lavatories.

The Gas Station: Leave a dollar card in the credit card slot at the pump pay station. Some marketers leave a dollar card at each pay station.

At the Newspaper Honor Box: Leave dollar cards in the real estate magazines, or in the financial section of the newspaper.

I use the 100 dollar bill, but they're also available in 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, and 50 dollar bill denominations.

Bandit Sign Tips

Bandit signs are like mini-billboards that expose a short message, typically a few words and a phone number. Though unpopular with city officials and neighborhood watch types, bandit signs appear again and again because they work. Realtors, political candidates, mortgage brokers, and network marketing representatives swear by them.

Bandit signs usually cost about two dollars apiece, so you want them to last as long as possible. Here are a few tips for keeping your bandit signs up for longer periods of time.

  • Before placing your own bandit signs, drive around an area and get a feel for which signs are already there. Check back a few times to see if they tend to stay up.

  • Place signs up as high as you can. You'll need a ladder for this. It helps to have a buddy, or you can hire someone to place the signs for you.

  • Use cable ties, not nails, to secure your signs. Punch two holes with a screwdriver and thread cable ties to the back. Depending on the length, you'll need to connect 2 to 3 cable ties on each side. Secure tightly to pole.

  • If you absolutely must use nails, choose roofing nails. Regular nails won't hold a sign for long in the wind.

  • Don't oversaturate one area and draw undue attention to your signs. Keep it to 20 signs or so, then replace them as needed (probably 2-3 times per month).

  • If you're targeting the 9 to 5 crowd, place your bandit signs in high traffic areas on a Sunday evening.

  • If you're targeting soccer moms and dads, place your bandit signs in athletic park areas on a Friday evening.

Studies have shown that the most effective color combination for a bandit sign is blue ink on a white background, as shown below.

Build a Free Website for Your Business in an Hour

Does your business have an online presence? If not, you can have a website up and running in the next hour -- and it won't cost you a penny! In fact, it's possible to earn money for yourself and charity by building Squidoo websites (called lenses).

Contrary to what you may think, it's not necessary to spend thousands of dollars on a customized website for your business. If you need to develop customers and leads, but your advertising budget is tight, Squidoo has the answer.

Squidoo is free to join and offers a zip-code driven platform called SquidZipper. The SquidZipper format was designed with real estate professionals in mind, but will work for any regional business. Build one or build a dozen. Personally I've built more than 20 SquidZipper lenses to promote my mobile notary public business -- one for each zip code area I cover. In addition to promoting my business online, these websites actually earn residual income for me each and every month.

All of the details are here:

Promote Your Business Online for Free with Squidoo SquidZipper Lenses

A step-by-step guide is also provided to help you create your first SquidZipper lens. One you've got one lens under your belt, it's a simple matter of creating similar lenses for any zip code areas you want to target. You can create as many lenses as you like. I've created more than 400 Squidoo lenses myself!
