If there is one person I would say I want to be like, it is Kim Meeder. In spite of unimaginable trauma, God has used Kim's experiences to birth an extraordinary compassion for children and adults alike. She and her husband, Troy, turned a rough and rugged piece of land into a healing oasis and named it Crystal Peaks Youth Ranch, a place of hope and healing for abused and neglected horses and people.

Kim gets a lot of credit and attention because of her published books and I know that if she had it her way, she would point back at her husband Troy for being the backbone of support and her biggest fan. Both Troy and Kim have sacrificed so much to share a dream that is meant to help others. Hats off to this adorable couple for all they have compromised to keep the doors of the ranch and their very hearts wide open to those who have benefited from the services that their Ranch provides.

Kim's compassion cannot help but overflow in her book, Hope Rising, expressing gratitude toward God for all He allows her the privilege to experience. She tells vivid, heart-wrenching stories of children who have visited the ranch and found a friend in a horse with a similar history of abuse and/or neglect. Her writing is poetic and engaging. I kept Hope Rising in my bathroom while reading it, and although a little embarrassing, I have to admit that until this book was left there, I considered having to go to the bathroom a nuisance. Each chapter is a short story, and I found myself taking frequent five minute breaks, just so I could read another therapeutic, tear-jerking, dream-kindling chapter. I like to dissect and savor what I read. But this book was not only worth savoring, it beckoned me to come back for more!
