The Making of Kimbo Slice
In the beginning...
Kimbo Slice is a street fighter turned mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter. He first appeared in several filmed underground fights which spread primarily via the Internet. The most notable of these fights was an extremely popular brawl with Sean Gannon. Slice was defeated by Gannon. The popularity of fight on the internet propelled both men into the MMA spotlight. Rolling Stone called Slice "The King of the Web Brawlers".
Kimbo Slice made his sanctioned MMA debut against former WBO Heavyweight champion boxer Ray Mercer. The Cage Fury Fighting Championships 5 was held in Atlantic City on June 23, 2007. The match was scheduled as a 3 round exhibition utilizing all professional rules of MMA combat. Slice defeated Mercer using a guillotine choke one minute and twelve seconds into the first round.
Kimbo Slice is one of the most popular MMA fighters.
Kimbo Loses
Was it a set up?
Kimbo Slice lost his last MMA fight in an incredible 14 seconds. Some people never thought Kimbo deserved to be in the octagon in the first place but I doubt anyone saw this defeat coming the way it did.
Count me in with the others who think something was just too screwy with that whole fight. First Shamrock not being allowed to fight and then Kimbo going down so quickly. I don't know if it was a set up but I sure didn't like the way things went down. Something just doesn't feel right about the situation.

EliteXC's Saturday Night Fights
While some people don't think Kimbo Slice should be headlining EliteXC's Saturday Night Fights, Kimbo is probably the most popular MMA fighter and his name alone will draw viewers.
Right now "Kimbo Slice" is hot on Google trends and probably will remain there for hours. CBS knew what they were doing when they chose to make him their big draw.
Kimbo will be fighting James Thompson. Unless Thompson wins don't expect his popularity to sky rocket from this fight.
However CBS is giving the sport of MMA a huge boost, I expect thousands of new fans after the May 31st fights air.

- great Lens too bad he was beaten so fast the other night. I was going to rank him on MMA Ranking but, I think this loss will set him back years.
