Kingdoms of Camelot - Defending your Cities
Kingdoms of Camelot is a real time strategy game played within Facebook (like Mafia Wars and Farmville). This is free online game that demands a good amount of skill, tactics and strategic thinking. None of that matters if you are spending all your game-playing time being attacked by stronger players. It will be virtually impossible to get ahead without using some of these techniques to defend yourself.
This game challenges you to join an alliance of friends, develop your buildings, amass walls and castles for protection, train an army and manage resources such as food, wood, stone and ore.
As you are building your cities, you are vulnerable to attack from aggressive players. Not to fear, there are several ways to defend your cities from attack.

Major Update!!!
Kingdoms of Camelot is re-leveling the strengths and weaknesses of the various troops. No longer will 90,000 archers attack a city without problem. Under the new construct, a diverse army will prove to be more effective.
There will be two tiers of troops and within each tier there will be three types of troops. Each troop type will be strong against one of the others and weak against the last one (Think Rock-Paper-Scissors!)
Plan now to be ready of the big day when these changes go into effect!
Join an Alliance
A good alliance will not only support you with resources as you grow, but will defend you against aggressive players looking to loot you. Your Chancellor will send a nice note to the offending player or their alliance leadership asking that the attacks cease. If that doesn't work, the more powerful members of the alliance will reinforce your cities with their troops.
When reinforced, the attacking player will get an unwelcome resistance that will destroy his troops. A costly mistake!
Hands down, this is the single best tip for defending yourself!
Additionally, a good alliance is a lot of fun to play with. Being a leader in the organization takes a lot of time and patience. Coordinating activities for one hundred people is a challenging and difficult chore. When you find a good leader, make sure you let them know how much you appreciate their efforts!
Be nice!
Just because someone attacks you does NOT mean that they are bad people! Remember that. There are numerous abandoned cities strewn throughout the game and players will target those for looting to keep their resources up. The majority of the time, the player will stop attacking you if you send them a note and ask nicely for them to stop. Overall, the people are very nice, but you do have to ask (politely!)
Conversely, if you receive mail asking you to stop attacking them, please honor that request. In fact, it may be good to ask that player to join your alliance. It is obvious that the player is active, is learning the game and is nice enough to send a note instead of flaming on you. That sounds like the perfect type of person to be in an alliance with!
Kingdoms of Camelot
Teleport
The Portal of Refuge will teleport your city to a random location in the Kingdom.
The Portal of Order will allow you to pick a specific location to teleport to.
There is no shame in teleporting away from a bad situation. Of course, you may want to write down the name and location of the player that was harassing you in case you wanted to pay a visit later when you have grown your army! ;-)
Protect Resources
Build a Storehouse To make your city less attractive, concentrate your efforts to build a Storehouse and raise its level as fast as you can. Every level of a storehouse will protect an additional 100,000 of food, wood, stone and ore. It will not protect gold. A level 9 storehouse will protect 900,000 of each resource from looters.
Use it! Use the resources. Make sure you are building and researching in both cities. An attack by another player will not disturb these queues. Also, make sure you maximized the number of troops being trained. In all of these cases, the game will use your resources to perform the particular task, and will have "protected" them from looting as well.
Hide it You cannot hide the resources in the Market - don't try it as it will not work. But, you can hide resources on your troops and send your troops to reinforce your wildernesses. If you were smart, you did not conquer wildernesses near your cities. That would make it easy for the offending player to figure out.
Hide it (part 2) You can also send excess resources to your second city. Hopefully that city is not being looted too. Unfortunately, most people build both of their cities right next to each other. By doing that, you send an open invitation to aggressive players - if one city produces good loot, then the second city should as well. Move one of your cities to another province. It will be very hard for the aggressive player to find them both.
Hide it (part 3) Send your resources to someone in your alliance for temporary storage. If the aggressive player is not getting any loot from you, he will strike your city from his target list. After a few days of no activity, your alliance will be able to send your resources back to you with no problems.
Other Role Playing Games
Manage your Troops
Until your troops are powerful enough to aid in the protection of your cities, you should protect them. There are two ways to do this.Hide in Sanctuary Your troops may hide in the Sanctuary. Toggle this setting in the Castle panel. If they are not hiding, they will be set to defend your city.
Hide them in your Wilderness You may also want to reinforce a wilderness by sending your troops away from the main city. The benefit of this is that they can take gold and other unprotected resources with them. This will make it a lot harder for the offending player to find.
Go on the Offensive
Be careful! If you go on the offensive with a member of a tough alliance, you may have quite the battle on your hands!
If someone continues to bother you, then turn the tables by going on the offensive.
Attack his wildernesses first. Once you conquer his wilderness, it may be smart to abandon it altogether unless you feel you can defend it. If you can't defend it, don't even try. Abandon it and maybe another play will scoop it up. Either way, that aggressive player will have lost the resource bonus for at least that short amount of time.
Attack his cities next. This is really a last-ditch effort and should only be done when no other solutions exist. You may end up being an annoyance and the aggressive player will stop attacking you in order to get you to stop reciprocating.

- I wrote a "helper program" for this game that will color code and group the cities that I have scouted and attacked. It will track which ones you have attacked today, need to scout, have resources, don't have resources, and much more. You can find more information about this program at: http://www.imagementor.net/products/Kingdoms%20of%20Camelot%20Helper.html

- Thanks JoaoMartins! I have found cross bows to be extremely effective. I am not a fan of using traps until the bug is fixed.
