Cooking can be a downright painful for someone with Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, and other similar illnesses. Cooking preparation is an everyday and most likely, a simple act for many people. But for people who suffer from these diseases, food preparation, like opening a jar, stirring foods, or lifting a pot can be very difficult or impossible.

Typical kitchen tools and gadgets may not be helpful, if you have reduced flexibility and strength in your arms, hands, wrists, and fingers.You want easy-use kitchen utensils.

When looking for adaptive kitchen tools, find ones specially designed with bigger grip handles, which will cushion the pressure on your hands. Ergonomic kitchen gadgets are designed to fit more comfortably in your hand, require less pressure to make the gadget work, and cause less strain than typical kitchen tools.

Why is it important to buy arthritis kitchen tools? When food preparation becomes too difficult, some people have to give up cooking activities to a family member. This may sound great to people who hate cooking, but actually, it's a loss of independence. If the person lives alone, they may stop cooking healthful meals. When it hurts to cook, you may stop chopping fresh vegetables or preparing homemade meals.

I created this lens for people with mobility limiting ailments, like Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Multiple Sclerosis, RSS, and other mobility limiting illnesses. I have Fibromyalgia and know how hard some cooking tasks can be. It's hard for me to chop vegetables, cut through meat, lift heavy pots, or twist a jar. It can be frustrating to lose independence, particularly when dealing with things that seem so 'easy'. Dicing vegetables can be so straining on my hands, I'd need to take a break before fixing the rest of the meal. Cooking rice or potatoes was nearly impossible because it'd be too difficult to carry a pot full of water and food from the stove to the counter.

I ask for help with some food preparation on "bad" days, and I'm fortunate to have family who enjoys helping me (my husband cooks most of the time because he enjoys cooking).
