Not a find but the one-handed can opener, we had this and out of desparation I figured out how to use the darn thing. I don't know why there were no instructions when we bought it but there wasn't. Turns out it is pretty darn nice.

I do love cooking. My son bought me a "Good Grips" can opener when he left home (thought I was getting old!). That was over 20 years ago and I'm still proudly using it. I also inherited my mother-in-law's meat grinder that she used to make ham salad every spring. I use it to make cranberry salad for the holidays. I really like inventive kitchen tools!
  • JenniferAkers Oct 26, 2011 @ 6:16 pm | delete
My husband does much of the cooking, but I LOVE recipes that call for inventive kitchen tools! Sounds like you have inherited some fabulous ones!

Portable Dishwashers this equipment has become very popular worldwide as it is very efficient as well as capable of saving lots of space. A portable dishwasher is of great use for people who are constantly on a move. They have the same features as a normal dishwasher. They are capable of saving lots of time and space. They also save power consumption.

The jar opener and Roll and pour look like they would be helpful. Specifically looking for tools for someone who has very limited use of right hand. It can be an anchor, that's about it. (Cerebral Palsy) Looking for suction cutting boards, measuring tools. Also any knives. Us lefties have enough trouble "turning things around" but when one can't use the right hand hardly at all, it becomes very hard and unsafe.

For my mother, it has become very difficult to lift pots and pans, frying pans, measuring cups. She also has difficulty in dicing onions, celeray, green onions, etc; unable to slice a piece of cheese, shower. Where can I go to find lighter more manageable things for the kitchen for her? The only way that my Mother can lift / move her left arm is with the use of her right arm. She is in constant pain!
  • JenniferAkers Mar 5, 2011 @ 10:05 pm | delete
I'd check out the arthritistoday.com website for ideas. OXO makes easy to handle tools. Also, if your mother is in a program that provides an assistant (I used to be a county case manager and would make recommendations for personal care aides), mention her difficulty to the case manager. There are special medical supply companies that have even more choices. I've also read about an easy peeler: Chef'n Palm Peeler, found at Amazon. Also, check out some of the links above. I wish you and your mom the best.

Thanks so much for the kudos, Jared! I had fun creating the lens and finding the quotes. :)

Joyce, I've looked for a loud beeping kitchen timer and added it to this lens. I know you're not the only one who needs it ... I need loud timers, too, so thanks for the question!

Martin, you're right ... the kitchen knife is a must-have kitchen tool. I've had some crummy ones in the past and learned it's best to look for quality before cost.
  • MartinPrestovic Jun 27, 2010 @ 5:43 pm | delete
Knives are must haves. I find that it is one of the most used in my kitchen. From slicing and dicing fruits and veggies, and cutting meat - there's not a day I don't use one. I have a really good set that I purchased online.
  • Joyce Mar 25, 2010 @ 12:24 pm | delete
I like to bake, but most of the time I can't hear the timer when it beeps. Does anyone make a cooking timer with a louder ring or beep?
  • JaredB Mar 18, 2010 @ 12:50 am | delete
Very informative and passionate lens! The quotes are awesome.
