Knee Surgery Recovery
The most common Knee Injuries that require Knee Surgery normally take 6-8 weeks of recovery time, before rehabillitation of the knee can begin. The timelines vary depending upon the physcial condition of the patient and following prescribed treatment.
Most Knee Surgery Recovery is successful, and many do not suffer lingering pain nor problems from their injury. Many athletes have made remarkable recovery after knee surgery and have participated in their sport after only a few months layoff.

Many athletes experience injuries to their knee ligaments. Of the four major ligaments found in the knee, the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and the medial collateral ligament (MCL) are often injured in sports. The posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) may also be injured.* ACL injury
Changing direction rapidly, slowing down when running, and landing from a jump may cause tears in the ACL. Athletes who participate in skiing and basketball, and athletes who wear cleats, such as football players, are susceptible to ACL injuries.
* MCL injury
Injuries to the MCL are usually caused by a direct blow to the outside of the knee. These types of injuries often occur in contact sports, such as football or soccer.
* PCL injury
The PCL is often injured when an athlete receives a blow to the front of the knee or makes a simple misstep on the playing field.
* Torn cartilage
When people talk about torn knee cartilage, they are usually referring to a torn meniscus. The mensicus is a tough, rubbery cartilage that is attached to the knee's ligaments. The meniscus acts like a shock absorber. In athletic activities, tears in the meniscus can occur when twisting, cutting, pivoting, decelerating, or being tackled. Direct contact is often involved.

in reply to Jason V I too had arthroscopic knee surgery , yes Christmas Eve. The doctor "repaired 2 tears in the miniscus and some general clean up", also looked at the ACL but fortunatley it was only partially torn and nothing needed to be done there. Today is 1/26/09 and I am still have a lot of pain from the knee to the feet and a lot of swelling. I was curious to know if your condition is similar or worse. Since we both had the same injury and had surgery the same day it would be nice to here from you .

Nice lens! I have hyperuricemia (also known as "gout")--and unfortunately it is creating something called "tophi" on my joints (including my knee joints). Very painful, There's a medication that helps to slow it down, but my doctor says that the way the tophi are spreading, I'll eventually have to have knee surgery. So, your lens was good to find. (You might want to add hyperuricemia as another reason why you might need knee surgery. (You can also get hyperuricemia attacks on your ankles and big toe, and on your hands and elbows --big toe and feet are the most common).
