They are so cute but when I had an opportunity to pay for a photo op in Oz I realized how incredibly stinky they are! Passed. Kind of like horses should be seen and not smelled.

I went to the zoo with a group of homeschooled teens today. We all ooooed and ahhhhed over the adorable koalas! They really are so cute! Excellent job with this lens! I did not know they have two thumbs on each of their front paws! Loved the photo of your children holding a koala too!

I did learn something new, that video of a koala chasing a motorbike is amazing! I never knew that koalas could move that fast on the ground. I love your lens; I've featured it on mine: http://www.squidoo.com/zoo-with-paper-animals-for-kids under "K" for koala. Thanks for sharing.

What a great lens! Do Koalas have any natural predators? They seem like pretty peaceable little creatures. I'd hate to think of them getting eaten by lions or tigers or something. And I wonder if they knew that if they ate something more nutritious they might have a little more energy. Sleeping for 20 hours a day!? :)
  • jeromeyoung Apr 28, 2012 @ 6:05 am | delete
I've never seen Koalas and never read about it before. With this lens I feel like seeing one already. Well, just imaginary based on your lens. Thanks.

I can't imagine there's anything new to learn, you've covered it all! I learned that they have two toes on their front paws. I'm sure I'd seen it before, just never really took notice. Also I learned that wombats are marsupials (I love the word wombat, especially how the Aussie's say it). Thanks for the great lens!

Cute, cute and cute. I was just talking with my 9 year old daughter the other day about koalas and how cool it would be to hold them when we get to ZOO. Unfortunately we'll have to find some other place to be able to experience that. Your kids were lucky and I love that photo.

Great lens. My Australian partner gets cross if anyone calls them bears, so I'm pleased to see you correcting the misconception! Was photographed stroking a Koala at Featherdale Wildlife Park in Sydney last year. There aren't many places left that let you hold them anymore unfortunately.

  • AltMotif Apr 12, 2012 @ 12:17 am | delete
Very cute lens, but it makes me cringe every time I hear the word 'bear' tacked on to the end of Koala. It's not correct and no one in Australia calls them that. I see you addressed the misuse of 'bear' at the start, but continued to use it. Seeing as you are from Australia too, I would have thought you would know better and stop fueling the disinformation trail.
  • getupandgrow Apr 11, 2012 @ 8:13 am | delete
This is so useful. I had thought that koala's could be found around every coast in Australia, not just the east or southeast...Your map has shown me where we'll need to visit to be sure of seeing them-many thanks!

I loved your lens and it is so crammed full of great info and interesting stuff! I especially loved the clip of the koala grunting. We hear them at night out the back of our house and I'm always at a loss to explain to people what they sound like. I say they grunt like a pig but that hardly seems right either. Please take the word 'sorry' out from under the pic of your kids. It's one of the most delightful parts of the lens and us mum's shouldn't make apologies for bragging about how gorgeous our little ones are! Loved it all!! Thanks.

Your map for the range of where Koalas live in Australia is wrong. It fails to show their dispersion in South Australia which is around Adelaide and on Kangaroo Island. Your map shows it ending at the border of Victoria and SA. A very nice lens though
