In her debut novel Sammy's Hill, Kristin Gore treats readers to an insider's view of life and love on Capitol Hill.In fact, the view couldn't get much more inside the Beltway, especially coming from former Vice President Al Gore's daughter. Still, Sammy's Hill is witty and engaging enough to prove that it's not always who you know, but sometimes how well you tell their stories.Samantha Joyce, Gore's heroine, is a 26-year-old self-deprecating health-care policy advisor to Robert Gary, a well-resp...1 point

The heroine of Kristin Gore's bestselling inside-the-beltway romp Sammy's Hill returns, and this time the laughs are richer and the stakes are higher -- at home and in the house (the White House, that is)Samantha Joyce is many things: Health care policy wonk. Hypochondriac. Lover of Japanese Fighting Fish (and of Charlie Lawton, her Washington Post reporter boyfriend). Jumper-to-conclusions. And when all these identities collide -- as they do most days -- the results are always unpredictable.Sam...0 points
Gore was raised in Washington, D.C., graduated from National Cathedral School in 1995 and from Harvard University in 1999. She played lacrosse in high school. While at Harvard she was an editor for the Harvard Lampoon, where she was the only female on staff for a few years: "Until her senior year, at Harvard, she was the only woman on the literary board of the Harvard Lampoon. "I didn't know its reputation at all," she says. "It was just that the funniest people I knew at Harvard were on the Lampoon, so I looked into it and it ended up being one of the best things I did."
Her Growing Career
Television
She has been a writer and story editor for the animated series Futurama, Charlie Lawrence and Saturday Night Live. Gore worked with her father, Al Gore during this time: "One of her favorite gigs was the week she wrote for Saturday Night Live which was also a week her father was on the show. She wrote a monologue for him that was a parody of The Bachelor, in which he and Joe Lieberman - played by Chris Parnell - ended up in a hot tub together. "My father thought it was funny," she says. For her work on SNL, she was nominated for an Emmy Award.
Novels
I went to one of her book signing's in 2004 for Sammy's Hill. She was very interesting and friendly. The book was an easy, enjoyable read. She was asked how she felt about being labeled "chic lit." She basically said that as long as her book was selling that was fine with her.
In 2004, she published a novel set in Washington, D.C. called Sammy's Hill, which is going to be made into a major motion picture. She metioned at the book signing that she had stopped writing the second novel to write the screenplay for Sammy's Hill. There is no word yet on a filming or release date. The sequel to the novel, Sammy's House was released in June 2007.
