I was so impressed with the Krups KBC2 toaster oven, I decided to return it and purchase the more expensive FBC4 model from Amazon because it offered even more features. Believe me, I am not disappointed. While the Krups FBC2 is an equally excellent product, the FBC4 also has:

1 - A stainless steel exterior finish which I really like because of its quality, appearance and durability, especially after reading reviews indicating there were issues with the Cuisinart exterior finish flaking.
2 - The convection oven feature significantly reduces cooking/reheating time.
3 - It has a Bagel toasting setting not available on the FB2 where it toasts bagels on the sliced side while only heating up the crust side. Like other units on the market, the FB2 toasts both sides. While this does a decent job of toasting bagels, the FB4 Bagel toasting feature results in a perfectly toasted bagel every time.
4 - While I have not yet used the defrost feature, I am looking forward to using it since I am not a big fan of microwaves.

In conclusion, I could not be happier with my decision to purchase a Krups toaster oven. The FB4 has definately exceeded my expectations and I look forward to using it for many years to come.

this is the first item that I have liked enough to write a review about. We just threw away our 3 year old basic Black and Decker toaster oven as one of the heating elements burned out. As this is a high use item in our house I decided an upgrade was in order and spent entirely TOO MUCH time researching it. Overall this roomy beast is easily able to make perfect toast, bagels, waffles, cheese sticks, chicken fried steaks, pretzels, ... once you know (and remember) the 'magic' number to set on the toaster. I have not used this oven extensively as other may have (roasted turkey, cooked 7-course meal, BBQ ribs for 20 people... LOL) but for basic oven use I found it to be very good. Toaster oven heats fast and evenly. The quartz element heating is quite interesting; I don't believe I've ever seen such a heating element before.

This oven does have a quartz heating element, and you will find that it heats more evenly and heats up quicker then a electric heating element alone does. And you will also find with this convection oven, it does not have a tendency to have hot spots,where food burns on one place while the rest is not fully cooked (an excellent feature of the quartz element) The convection oven feature significantly reduces cooking/reheating time. Krups Convection Toaster Oven

Overall the quartz heating elements get hot quick for the simple fact that it is smaller than a regular oven, so the preheat time is nil to none in some cases. The buttons and general design are very sleak and clean. The controls are digital and are easy to use, it even has a backlight. You can set temperatures from 200 degrees F to about 450 degrees F. There are bake, convection bake, toast and broil options. All the buttons are clear and are easy to clean. The case is black metal and has a very sturdy feel, with nice handles that stay cool. It feels like it is fairly large, but the interior is probably a common size.
