The Audio Book LA Outlaws by T. Jefferson Parker Was A Blast!
I downloaded L.A. Outlaws for free from my public library website. This is such an easy way to get audio books. The price isn't bad, either! (free!)
I downloaded this book by T. Jefferson Parker to my SanDisk Sansa mp3. It works great in new autos with a "line in" jack. In older model cars or "plain jane" equipped rides, you can purchase the iTrip Auto for Sansa.
To listen to audio books on an airplane using headphones, I recommend the set I purchased--the JVC Stereo Headphones NC100 (HA-NC100-JC). Nice price for a good product. I did the research.
Plot Summary of L.A. Outlaws by T. Jefferson Parker
Found this summary on my library's website. I did not write it.

Los Angeles is gripped by the exploding celebrity of Allison Murietta, her real identity unknown, a modern-day Jesse James with the compulsion to steal beautiful things, the vanity to invite the media along, and the conscience to donate much of her bounty to charity. Nobody ever gets hurt - until a job ends with ten gangsters lying dead and a half-million dollars worth of glittering diamonds missing.
Rookie Deputy Charlie Hood discovers the bodies, and he prevents an eyewitness - a schoolteacher named Suzanne Jones - from leaving the scene in her Corvette. Drawn to a mysterious charisma that has him off-balance from the beginning, Hood begins an intense affair with Suzanne.
As the media frenzy surrounding Allison's exploits swells to a fever pitch and the Southland's most notorious killer sets out after her, a glimmer of recognition blooms in Hood, forcing him to choose between a deeply held sense of honor and a passion that threatens to consume him completely.
With a stone-cold killer locked in relentless pursuit, Suzanne and Hood continue their desperate dance around the secrets that brought them together, unsure whether each new dawn may signal the day their lies catch up with them.
AudioFile Magazine Review of LA Outlaws

An L.A. Sheriff's deputy with an overburdened conscience falls in love with the witness of a gangland shootout who may be leading a double life as a masked outlaw. This unlikely scenario is made both believable and compelling in the fifteenth novel from T. Jefferson Parker.
The reading, performed by real-life husband-and-wife team Susan Ericksen and David Colacci, is performed with sensitivity. As chapters switch between Suzanne's perspective and that of a third-person narrator, Ericksen and Colacci alternate as readers, with the other providing dialogue parts for the opposite sex. Both pairs--Ericksen and Colacci as well as the two lead characters--blend perfectly in this taut thriller about love, greed, and redemption.

My Very Own Review of this fiction Audio Book
Main Character thinks she is a descendant of a real outlaw: Joaquin Muiretta
Not your "Great American Novel", but a pleasing way to pass the time.
Why you should listen to L.A.Outlaws:
- This Brilliance Audio version of this novel is read by TWO people.
- David Colacci and Susan Erickson are excellent readers and actors who give a lot of depth to this audiobook.
- Having two readers makes it easy to follow the plot line.
- Having a man and a woman as the readers makes the audiobook seem like theater or old-time radio stories. What fun!
- Having a woman do the lady characters makes it easier to identify who is speaking.
- IT IS BETTER THAN LISTENING TO COMMERCIALS ON THE TOP 40 RADIO STATIONS.
- It helps to drown out jet engine noise when flying commercial airlines.

Listening to a good story helps pass the time on an LONG journey.

Thanks, and remember that a portion of any revenue earned goes to charity.
California Girl is one of the books I have listened to on audio. It is a story suitable for men and women. Parker is an author whose style is well suited to the audio book "modality".

What is your favorite type of Book on audio?
Do you like fiction or non-fiction? True crime or crime fiction?
My husband and I prefer to listen to mysteries when looking for books to listen to in the car on a long trip. Lately, we have been having trouble finding stories that do not depress us. In other words, too much in the way of gory details and sick crime sprees are not what we are looking for in an audio novel. M.C. Beaton and others like her are the authors we are choosing. T. Jefferson Parker, so far, can be counted among one of our chosen authors, as well.
