Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender people face overt discrimination every single day, even in the United States. Certain political leaders vocally advocate for the denial of basic civil rights for the LGBT population. States can deny second parent adoptions to LGBT families who are seeking protective rights for the non-biological parent of their children. Transgender individuals are frequently terminated from their jobs because of their gender identity. LGBT couples are denied over 1,400 federal and state benefits conferred by marriage. LGBT individuals are often the victims of violent crime and may not be protected by hate crimes laws. Many LGBT people in need of legal assistance do not have access to attorneys with experience handling similar cases.

Equality Advocates Pennsylvania fights for equality for LGBT Pennsylvanians! We do this by providing direct legal services to the LGBT community, advocating in Harrisburg and throughout the state for policy reform, and by educating the public about LGBT rights.
We are one of only four organizations in the nation that provides direct legal services to the LGBT community. Our legal hotline is staffed by professional attorneys and legal interns, and we handle cases ranging from child custody to employment descrimination to housing discrimination.
We lobby at the state level to ensure that laws to protect LGBT individuals are either passed or expanded. We're working to defeat a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage in Pennsylvania, and fighting to re-enact the hate crimes legislation that was repealed earlier this year.
We educate the community about the issues that LGBT individuals face, including policy makers, attorneys, school groups, and many more. We also teach community members about how to contact their legislators, how to set-up meetings with public officials and how to advocate for LGBT rights.
