Women's Golf: The Lady Golfer's Guide

Ranked #14,394 in Sports & Recreation, #351,792 overall

Golf is a GREAT game for women!

I'm making this page about Women's Golf because... I love golf! I'm not a professional player by any means but I do enjoy it! As a teenager, I began taking lessons at our country club and spent many hours on the green and at the driving range. Even now, the driving range is a great place to go for awhile for me to relax and even de-stress. (Don't go when you are angry though, you'll only hurt a muscle and the ball won't go any further!!) :) Its all about precision, not power! Although you do need some strength in a good shot, its not just about seeing how far you can hit it! My husband can outdrive me on the course any time, but I tend to hit it straight a lot more often than he does! So don't be intimated by the game of golf, like so many women I know who used to think it was just a man's game until they learned how to play!

Don't golf on a first date!

Here's my story...

A few years ago (before I was married to the lucky guy on the right there) I attended a local speed dating event in Harrisburg, PA. There I met a great guy (we'll call him Anthony) with similar interests so we decided to go on a date the following weekend. His idea was to play a round of golf since it was spring and was supposed to be a beautifully cool day. Since we both shared this interest, I decided to go for it. Big mistake. Here's why I would NOT suggest golf for a first date...or maybe it was a good idea? Well people who are bad at golf or even just have an "off" day on the course will tend to show their anger...and frustration! First dates are meant for chatting and smiling and having fun...not breaking clubs, losing clubs in the woods, nearly hitting two men on the green with your drive, searching the woods forever for millions of lost balls...wow the list goes on. And yep, he did all those things. It definitely wasn't the pleasant, relaxed, and fun experience of a first date that I was expecting. After nine LONG and UNCOMFORTABLE holes where I was winning by at least 10 strokes, he thankfully asked if we should continue the back nine. Thankfully I was very hungry so we headed back to his house for filet mignon and shrimp on the BBQ with some ice wine to top if off...now THAT is my idea of a good date. But the game of golf prior totally ruined it and there was never a second date. Ladies, take my advice and do not go golfing on a first date unless you really want to see what the guy is made of and only if you have a ton of patience yourself. And take it from me, they really don't like to lose to women on the course either! I think that was the icing on his cake. Well it was mine, anyhow.
