Visit the Lake District

The Lake District is a simply fantastic destination. The landscape is incomparably beautiful, but is small enough to travel around comfortably in a week or two.

The area is home to the England's highest peak,Scafell Pike, and there are many hundreds of other great walks to suit all abilities. Probably the best known guidebooks to use for walks in the Lake District are those by Wainwright. His hand drawn maps, and intricate mountainscapes, together with his brilliant descriptive writing make them indispensable literature for a day out on the 'fells'.

The Lake District is steeped in history. It was here that the 'Romantic' poetry movement started, and was home to such great poets as Wordsworth and Coleridge. So, if the weather is too bad to enjoy the scenery there are plenty of museums and attractions to educate and entertain.

Five excellent places to vist in the Lake District

1. Scafell Pike - Englands highest peak
2. Boat trip on Lake Windermere - relax and soak up the scenery
3. Lucy's Delicatessen (Ambleside) - home to a fantastic range of foods and drink
4. The Drunken Duck Inn - A great traditional English Pub
5. Beatrix Potter museum - You've seen the books, now visit this great attraction and keep the kids happy!

Rydal Water! Obviously I'm biased, as I live there, but when its still and calm, the reflections are fantastic!

I quite often work in the Lake District. The views are fantastic, especially after the snow has paid a visit. Nice lens.

Hi! Thanks for the welcome on the forum.

This is a great idea for a lens. I love the Lake District and had a memorable time there a few years back. My wife and I love walking so it couldn't have been more perfect - I remember even the sun shone for two weeks!

Good luck,
Mike.
