The vibrant blue color of lapis lazuli (or lapis) is a strikingly beautiful. Often having gold veins running through it, or a sparkly finish, lapis is a rock that has been admired and cherished for thousands of years.
Lapis Lazuli Information
- Water can remove the protective coatings on lapis, therefore, it should not be soaked in water for a long period of time. Lapis jewelry should be removed before swimming. Lapis should be cleaned with a soft dry clothe. If water is needed, the stone should be dried immediately.
- Lapis Lazuli is the anniversary gemstone for the 7th and 9th year of marriage.
- The main supplies of Lapis Lazuli are found in the Afghanistan, Egypt, Canada, Chile, the US, and South America.
- Lapis lazuli is a rock composed of a mixture of several different minerals including lazurite, huaynite, sodalite, noselite, calcite and pyrite.
- Lapis was used by the ancient Egyptians in many religious ceremonies, and was often used as an inscription stone for various passages from the Book of the Dead.
