Laptop and Netbook Computer Memory

Everyone loves the convenience of a portable computer, and once you have one, you find that it's indispensable in your daily life. Taking it to work, school, at use anywhere in the home, on trips, just about anywhere you have the space and an Internet connection and there's nothing you can't do.

Also, once you have one, the next step is to improve it, and the easiest way to improve a netbook or laptop computer is through more memory. Netbooks and laptops use DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory) which is a type of RAM or Random Access Memory, which stores information temporarily, and allows you to do more things simultaneously or more complicated functions. By upgrading your memory, you can do more things faster.

Netbook computers come with 1GB of RAM and so upgrading to 2GBs is a huge upgrade for a small cost.

I recommend Crucial memory, a division of Micron Technology, Inc., which is affordable, has great reviews and matches a wide variety of netbooks and laptops.

FAQ - Laptop Computer Memory

Laptop computer memory is easy to install and use. Right?

Generally, (your laptop/netbook may vary) it's pretty easy to upgrade the memory in your netbook or laptop. All you'll need is a screwdriver to open the little door that covers the RAM, pop out the old RAM chip (some chips will pop up for you making it easier to get it out), insert the new one (line it up and push it into the slot), close the door, screw it down and you're done.

Your computer should be off when you perform this operation, so you'll be rebooting anyway, and this should be enough to recognize the memory.

Sometimes you'll have to enter into the BIOS (which you can do during startup) and set the computer to recognize the new memory.

When in doubt, contact someone you know who can assist you, and you can always contact Crucial tech support at 800-336-8915 in the U.S. and Canada.

Is more memory very expensive?

Not at all.

Depending on your laptop or netbook computer model, memory can be found on Amazon for as little as $45.

What's the right memory for my netbook/laptop computer?

Crucial makes it easy to determine what you need for your computer.

The Crucial homepage provides a tool to check their database which will tell you what you can use based on your netbook or laptop brand and model. Select Memory Upgrades, enter your system's information and Crucial will show you which memory is compatible with your model.

For netbook computer memory, try the Netbook Upgrade Center. Click Upgrade Your Netbook, enter your netbook's information and Crucial will show you which memory is compatible with your model.
