Laser Eye Surgery for all

Many people have heard about Laser eye vision correction surgery, and want to know more about its success rate, surgery cost, recovery duration, risks, after effects, etc. Actually, not everybody is suitable to undergo the Lasik eye surgery. Before you start arranging an appointment with a qualified Lasik surgeon, you should go through the following checklist to see if you are a good candidate for the eye correction.

Lasik surgery critiera

Firstly, young people below the age of 18 are not suitable for Lasik surgery. Eye problems such as short sightedness tends to deteroriate during your teens years and gradually stablizes as your reach your mid twenties. This is due to the shape of your eyes affected by your body growth which stops when puberty, which can range from age 12 to 25, is fully completed. Some eye physicians even recommend the cut off age be 25 in some cases. There is really no point in trying to correct your eyes too early since any improvements made to the shape of your eyes will be undone by further growth. In addition, your vision prescription must have been relatively stable for at least one year, which indicates there will be no further growth or changes in your eye shape. This is necessary such that your eye shape after the Lasik surgery will remain final and constant.

Your general medical history is also important to determine if you can have the eye surgery. If you have certain chronic conditions such as Lupus, you should not schedule a Lasik procedure. Your eyes must be healthy and no existing conditions such as eye infection or injury for the past twelve months. There must not be any scarring on the eye cornea or a history of recurring eye diseases or herpes infection in the eyes. The dilation of your eyes should also be within a certain degree. Women who are pregnant or nursing are not suitable to have Lasik.

Finally, the main requirement for adults is to simply have sufficient tear production necessary for successful eye healing and lubrication after the surgery. If you tend to have minor dry eyes, your doctor may still deem you suitable by prescribing eye lubricating medication to aid your healing process. While there is no upper age limit for having Lasik eye correction, senior people are more likely to suffer from insufficient tear production. Otherwise, many patients in their fifties to eighties have successful Lasik operations.

If you pass the above health critiera and want the Lasik surgery to improve your lifestyle, do contact estahlished Lasik surgeons in your for further discussions. The surgery is generally very safe and success rate is around 99 percent. You may want to search for feedback and recommendations from friends who have undergone Lasik successfully. Do note that the Lasik surgery costs can be very different between different cities or even among different clinics within the same city. You can also read more about the newer Intra Lasik eye surgery.
