Laser projector art, laser special effects

I'm making a page about Laser and Stained Glass artistry because I'm passionate about Art and the mixed media approach to expression. Just like body language speaks volumes so does art.
I used to own many different high power lasers that were power hungry, water cooled monsters capable of lighting up large arenas and concert halls. Man, those things were hernia generators when it came to lugging them around and I always had to realign them after each move. I've moved on to Diode Pumped Solid State "DPSS" Lasers since then and only need regular power 120 VAC , no water cooling, no realignment, sigh !.....
My many years of Stained Glass artisry experience have helped me with special effect generation as well.

I make...

I make Stained Glass original art and have built my own full color DPSS laser Projector. I'm writing a book entitled " Laser Projector Design Guide for new Laserists "

How long have you been doing this?

I have been doing Stained Glass over 20 years and still learning, experimenting. I have always been interested in Lasers from their inception. I have an a graduate degree as an Electronics Eng. Tech. so naturally gravitate towards technology but i also have an avid interest in Art and multimedia. The 2 interests fuse a marriage of skill and Imagination that fires my passions for expression.

I'm writing a book " Laser Projector Design Guide for new Laserists "

I'm creating my own content on mixed media concerning Laser and Stained Glass Art since none exists at the moment.

    Hi Guys & Gals,

I decided to start a contest. The winner gets a free Liquid sky laser scanner 650nm Red Laser diode module (7 milliwatts with driver) and it's powered by a 5vdc supply included.
The winner will be randomly selected at the contest end, and the prize shipped for free.
Open to anyone on the planet who's interested.
    See contest details here http://tinyurl.com/l7sydd

    Good Luck

Nice lens of fabulous art! I would like to give you the opportunity to link up with my lens which promotes artists/photographers/designers working with a variety of mediums. Please come and add your link to my lens. Let's link together. I hope it will bring you more traffic. If you want to reciprocate with a few stars and/or add my link to your lens that will be nice too. Art at Staycation
    We'll see if it helps.

Laser Image I created using a Lexel 95 Argon Ion class 4 Laser

The Ripple Effects

I projected the Argon Laser beam off a DVD blank disk. The power levels of a class 4 Argon Ion Laser running at 2 watts is more than enough to permanently blind you. Actually 5 thousanths of a watt is enough to damage your retina If you had your eye focussed directly on the Laser beam for about 5 seconds. The DVD was actually having a meldown and I took some very interesting still shots.
What do you think of this one ?

Another Argon Laser Artistry Image

Laser Kaleidascope medicine wheel

I used a software twist on this Argon Laser Image to create a nice effect.
What do you think of this Laser art Image ?

The Eye of Sauron

Argon Laser Image on the ceiling

For all you fans of J. R. Tolkien
My version of the "Eye of Sauron"

How do you like it ?

Melles Griot DPSS blue 457 nanometer laser doing almost 400 milliwatts output

Picture of Melles Griot Diode Pumped Solid State Laser I tried adding to my home built Laser Projector. I discovered that I was losing 10 % of the laser power through the mirrors of the Chinese cloned galvanometers I had planned on using. Blue photons are too expensive to waste so I changed to better quality galvanometers and eventually changed my blue laser due to blanking speed problems.
The Laser head is sitting on top of the power supply. For some reason the Image rotated by 90 degrees during the upload process. Just turn your head sideways to view.
Looks like a train locomotive doesn't it ?

Picture of Spectra Physics 164 Argon Laser doing 6 watts

Another monster Argon Laser toy I used to own and do Laser shows with. Water cooled, ran on 220 VAC at 30 amps. Power hungry but fun to light up clouds with the right weather conditions.
Geez, picture got rotated by 90 degrees during the upload. More neck exercise.

Spectra Physics White Light Argon/Krypon Ion gas Laser

This is a very nice full color white light laser I used to do shows with . Note the black module mounted in front. This is a PolyChromatic Acousto Optic Modulator or better known as a PCAOM for short. The PCAOM allows you to select any color you want from the white light laser. Under computer control I could generate Images and color changes with a color palette of 16 million combinations.

Special Effects Lumia Wheel made of Stained Glass

Here's where the Stained Glass comes into play. I created this Lumia Wheel out of textured Stained Glass. I mount it on a slow moving motor and project the laser light through it to create absolutly beautiful moving visual effects. Some remind me of Images from the Hubble Space telescope or something out of Star Trek. Fantastic stuff.

The Lexel 95 Argon Ion gas Laser I used to have

Class 4 Argon Laser

This laser requires 3 phase power 208 to 220 VAC at 50 to 60 HZ. I built a phase converter using a 7.5 HP 3 phase motor so I could use my house 220 VAC power to generate 3 phase power to fire this baby up. I couldn't run it at full power because the phase converter wasn't big enough. If I had a 10 or 12 HP 3 phase motor it would probably have been enough to crank up the laser to 4 watts.

Industrial Lumonics JK702 pulsed ND-YAG Laser 850 watts 120 Joules power output

Almost bought this baby but didn't have the power to test it let alone move the sucker.
The Laser head is sitting on top of the power supply and integral cooling system.

Outdoor shot of Lexel 88 Argon Laser beam out of house towards tree in back yard

The Lexel 88 Argon Laser was cranked up to 2 watts for this picture.

Here's a shot of an Argon Laser from a Lexel 88 Laser I used to own. Now in Malta doing Laser shows. As you can see the beam looks solid even from the side view which is about 75 feet away.
