How to shop for a Latex Mattress
The latex foam mattress is a natural material collected by hand from a liquid, the put into large bowls and carefully filtered to remove particles and other particulate matter. After which it is poured into a large mold and immersed with water then it is slowly heated and the liquid becomes solid.
There are two methods to producing latex the Dunlop method and the Talalay method, both produce the same latext mattress but the later produces a slightly lighter and less firm feel while the former is more firm and solid when it is finished.

How to Buy a Latex Mattress
1. Go with the 100% natural latex over the synthetic blends. Natural latex have a more lively repsonsive and elastic feel to it. Bottom line is that it is just more comfortable. The natrual latex is more durable and resists packing down or forming body molds. Additionally because it is chemicla free there is no gas drift off and it is hypo-allergenic.
2. Look for a simply designed mattress. The less parts it takes to make the mattress the less opportunity the mattress has to shift and move while you are using it. Avoid layers and different zoning of the bed.
3. If you must purchase a layered mattress choose one that has the Dunlop latex on the bottom and the Talalay latex on the top; and if you want to add even more comfort try a memory foam mattress pad on top of that.
4. Make sure the outer covering is breathable preferably made of wool as this will aid in the hypo-allergenic qualities of the bed and keep it bacteria free at the same time. Just make sure the covering is not too thick as this can take away from the overall comfort of the bed.
5. Buy from someone you trust with multiple locations around the state so that should you need to exercise any warranty you do not have to go very far to do it.
6. Speaking of warranties, make sure you have one with at least 10 years and that it offers full replacement guarantees.
7. Make sure there is a trail period associated with the mattress so you can actually sleep on it in the home and get a feel for what the mattress will be like in your home.

Not All Latex is Created Equal
Not everyone who says they are producing latex mattresses are telling the truth. Synthetic latex was created during world war one and in an effort to help deal with shortages of the natural latex needed for the actual war. In today's terminology latex is considered all the same whether it is natural latex or not. The natural material is made from the sap of the rubber tree while the synthetic is made from a harsh mixture of chemicals and other harsh additives.
So you may have been turned onto the latex mattress because it can claim to be green, but there is nothing green about the synthetic versions. In fact the synthetic latex can cause health problems and will emit gases for weeks after you buy it while the natural latex is hypoallergenic and will actually help you get a better nights sleep.
