Marketing, Communications & Wenching
The common thread for all of my experience has been communications; most often my work entails writing for others, including but not limited to: advertising copy (both print and broadcast,) sales brochures, speeches, annual reports, grant applications, press releases, position papers and more.
Lately, I've made a concerted effort to write more on topics that interest me with my own byline and I'm even trying my hand at some fiction. Yes, I have a nom de plume. No, I won't tell you what it is just yet.
When I'm not writing for others or myself, I can often be found wenching with the New Orleans Krewe of Pirate Wenches as Zelda Shagnasty. You can scroll down the page to learn a little more about that wench. Further down the page you'll also discover how I came to be called the Hurricane Magnet and you'll find links to my other lenses and published articles.
This page - like my life - is a work in progress, so please do check back from time to time and be sure to leave a note in my guest book.
Zelda Shagnasty
Pirate Wench, Calendar & Cover Girl
Yup. I dress up like a pirate wench and parade around the streets of New Orleans. Here, in NOLA, that is remarkably unremarkable. But, being a pirate wench is far more than costuming, In a nutshell, it's about attitude. It is about being unapologetically who you are. The dressing up part serves as a reminder of that and is just plain fun.
When I don my wench wear, I walk a little taller and laugh a little louder. I'm saucier, sassier and shamelessly flirtatious. In short, I'm more me.
The things I like best, though, are the smiles I get from others and interacting with friends and strangers alike in a way that is simultaneously artificial and more authentic than how we usually communicate with one another. While those intangibles may not pay the rent, they certainly feed my soul and that makes the effort worthwhile.
You can learn more about this wench in the Zelda Shagnasty lens. Better yet, why not bring your own pirate or wench out of the closet? Make your pirate lens and join the crew - Pirates Next Door.
l leave you with this quote from Helen Gurley Brown that best sums up Zelda, "Good girls go to heaven; bad girls go everywhere."

The Hurricane Magnet
The Short Version
Sure, like most people, I've been through tornadoes, earth quakes, floods, snow storms and freak weather phenomenon. Hasn't everybody? It seems, though, that I have a particular relationship with hurricanes. My hurricane list includes: Agnes, Andrew, Frances, Jeanne, Katrina and Gustav - to name a few.
You can check out my Hurricane Magnet lens for the details, but the short version is that after the Hurricane Seasons of 2004 and 2005, I was dubbed by my family and friends as The Hurricane Magnet.
I pondered that possibility and decided that if it is true, then it would be in everyone's best interest that I not visit them - including YOU.
Because I care, I am making available my new Hurricane Magnet Protection Program. That's right, for only one penny per day, I will NOT visit your city.
Protection for Only 1 Cent Per Day

Certain restrictions and exclusions apply - namely, if you live in New Orleans or Ft. Myers you are just out of luck, but feel free to encourage others to purchase. You'll need someplace safe to evacuate to, as well.
Scattered, Smothered and Covered
I have no clue why I associated my link list with Waffle House hash browns.

I worry that being involved in marketing for so long has my brain wired so that everything is in ad-speak.
The good news is, you can enjoy these calorie-free, no-carb, zero trans fat links without gaining weight or compromising your health; that's your physical health. The jury is still out on the impact to your mental health. Also, studies have suggested that following the links provided below significantly increases your metabolism, personal magnetism and gives you minty fresh breath.*

- Hmmmm...wouldn't that be interesting if a hurricane hit California. Why don't you come visit and we'll test out your theory. Never been in a hurricane but we did swim in the ocean while Tropical Storm Gustav was passing through last August (the Caribbean, not California!). That was something else. Truth be told, swimming in the ocean during a tropical storm is not really bright but those waves were awesome! Fun lens!
