What to Expect in Pilates
The Pilates, pronounced Puh-LAH-teez, has long been considered as the most effective, unique method of body conditioning that integrates muscle control, proper breathing, flexibility, strength training, and body awareness.Sounds difficult but it isn't. There is no fancy footwork or hard to follow moves.
Originally developed by a legendary performer and boxer Joseph Pilates, the fitness Pilates Method has gone mainstream.
The Pilates method basically features a series of more than 500 fitness exercises although there are 10 most popular ones and these and not all all 500 are usually taught.
Note: since Pilates does not build muscle but tones & shapes muscles, pilates is popular with both men and women. Bodybuilders are now incorporating Pilates into their routines to define and shape their body and over come any mis-shaped areas.
These are controlled movements that are performed very slowly coupled with an intense concentration, but with little repetitions.
The primary aim of these controlled movements is to strengthen and stabilize the so-called "powerhouse of the anatomy" - the core muscles of the abdomen, lower back, and buttocks which enable the rest of the body to move freely.
You will start off with the simple movements of the Pilates Method. Gradually, you'll be able to progress to the more advanced exercises.
Note that in fitness Pilates Method, it is always the quality of your movements that is crucial.
You will learn to do your movements slowly, unlike other methods where you do as many crunches or whatever in as short a time as possible.
Once you have thoroughly learned the Pilates techniques you will start to see incredible results very quickly. Many see results in a little as 10 sessions. Now that's motivation!
Those that use Pilates videos such as the Winsor Pilates videos are able to stop their DVD, look over the exercise carefully and can learn it much quicker, therefore giving them quicker results.

Why Winsor Pilates Works Better For Fat Loss Than Other Pilates Programs
Pilates as you know is designed to work all the muscles in your body, toning and shaping them. However, most Pilates programs specifically are not aimed to assist you in losing weight as well as inches.
Winsor Pilates, developed by Mari Windsor is designed for those who are not just looking to tone but are also looking to burn fat.
Before Winsor Pilates, Pilates was never really considered to be an effective workout as far as losing weight is concerned.
It was more geared towards balancing and strengthening the body, and that is why it commonly was used mostly by athletes and dancers.
Mari Winsor however, combined traditional pilates with a slant towards cardio. She calls her system "dynamic sequencing" where you complete Pilates actions and positions at a quicker pace.
The outcome of her system is a Pilates workout which burns more calories.
Mari has developed and improved her workout techniques over a span of 15 years, establishing the correct exercise sequence order to offer her clients, mostly celebrity personalities the most desired results.
Winsor Pilates is not just another Pilates program!

The Exercise Ball & Pilates
Working with the Swiss (exercise) ball can be fun, but it also give you a good Pilates workout
Today, the exercise ball (Swiss Ball) is a common tool in many physical fitness programs. One reason for this is, like Pilates, the use of the exercise ball helps to firm up the trunk muscles in the core of the body.Training the core of the body not only lends strength to the limbs and trunk but it also keeps the body flexible, balanced and provides support for the spine.
The effectiveness of using an exercise ball for core conditioning is due to the round shape which creates instability for the body. This in turn causes your body's core muscles to react to the instability caused by the ball. Over time, your body will improve the strength and flexibility of those muscles as it begins to intuitively rely on core muscles for balance.
1) Squat and Lift
Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart while holding the exercise ball in your hands with both hands on either side of ball.
Bend both knees (as if you are going to sit) so that you are squatting slightly as you lower the ball in front of you.
Slowly straighten your legs to a standing position as you lift the ball to shoulder length.
Once you have straightened up completely, slowly raise the ball above your head and then slowly lower it to shoulder height again.
Repeat the exercise 10 to 15 times.
2) Hip Extension
Lie on your back on the floor with your heels propped on the exercise ball.
Slowly lift your hips off the floor as you squeeze your buttocks and tighten your abdominal muscles.
Continue to lift your body off the floor until your body is in a straight line.
Hold this position for a few seconds and lower.
Repeat the exercise 10 to 15 times.
3) Lunges
Place the exercise ball on the floor and stand with your back towards it.
Standing with your feet together and your hands on your hips, place one foot on the ball behind you.
Slowly bend your front knee, ensuring that your knee doesn't pass your toes.
Try to keep your back erect - do not lean forward as you bend.
Repeat the exercise 10 to 15 times.
These exercises are just the beginning. There are so many exercises you can do on the exercise ball that you'll never become bored. Warm up first for 5-10 minutes before getting started.
Used properly, the exercise ball will increase the strength and flexibility of your core muscles with regular use. No matter what your fitness level is, give the fitness ball a try.
You'll be surprised to see how much fun it can be.
