How to Tune a Guitar
Tuning a guitar doesn't need to be a pain. But if you want your songs to sound good, it's something you have to keep up with. The strings stretch and the guitar wood itself gradually warps, so you'll need to make sure to check your tuning often!
How to start Tuning your Guitar
For tuning, you'll need to be able to hear when the note you play matches up with the tuner. You can either buy a hand held tuner, learn to do it by ear, or if you have access to the Internet, tune at home using an Internet tuner. I really recommend buying your own tuner if you're going to take your guitar to play somewhere.
Anyhow, you'll want to start with the low E string. It's the biggest, fattest one on the top. After you get that one to match, you'll be working your way down the strings to tune the others. You can either match them each to the tuner, or try to use the method in the video below. After you're finished, try to play a basic G chord to make sure it sounds alright. If it doesn't, you'll want to go through again and make sure they match up.
Make sure you're turning the correct knob for the string, otherwise, you might just undo all your hard work!
