Orienteering is the art of traveling overland using a compass and a map
Orienteering is a fun way to learn about maps, outdoor survival and also nature itself, be sure to always carry extra water when hiking.. I went through a 30 day course in the Army, great stuff, I feel confident hiking anywhere.

Your minimum survival kit
You should take these survival tools everytime you hike.
This is serious do not overestimate your orienteering abilities. Please many experienced people get lost.
1.Compass
2.Topographical map
3.Toilet paper
4.Loud Whistle
5.Mirror
6.Six Power bars
7 Sharp knife
8.Emergency poncho
9 TWO forms of fire ie waterproof matches, Zippo lighter
10.First aid kit
11.15 feet strong fishing line or twine
12.1 gallon water (take it or risk death if lost long)
13.Bug spray
14.Any hunting or fishing licenses you have.
15. Additional water in canteens
