Importance of Learning New Languages

Learning a new language opens a lot of new doors and brings in new opportunities and some of them come up when they are least expected. However, learning a new language is not easy. It needs patience and persistence. As we all have better things to do such as having fun watching TV, hanging out with friends, playing PC games, etc... it becomes one of those important but not urgent necessities.
Funny thing is years pass and you don't notice it until you disqualify for some great potential opportunity because of not knowing a language very well while somebody else does.
In this page you can find a collection of techniques, resources and software that can help you in learning new languages. Different people have different learning styles. You should figure out which one is working the best for you.

Learn English using a Simple Excel File

Well, the first technique I want to explain is using a very simple Excel File to keep yourself motivated and continuously involved. I have attached a sample of the excel file for learning English but you can use the same format for learning any language.

Here you can download the blank excel file for your use:
http://www.articleparty.net/Learn_A_New_Language/Learn_a_New_Language_Blank.xls

Here you can download a filled out sample:
http://www.articleparty.net/Learn_A_New_Language/Learn_a_New_Language_Sample.xls

And now how to use it:
As you see the file has two sheets: "New Words" Sheet and "Word Count" Sheet.
in "New Words" Sheet you should enter the basic information for the word you don't know. You may want to have the file open all the time on your laptop or personal computer. Also you should have a PC dictionary such as "Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English" or any other dictionary open on your computer or a paper dictionary nearby. Whenever you face a new word watching TV, reading a newspaper, etc you can look up the word right away in the dictionary and add it to your file with its examples. This method is specially useful if you are fan of a particular TV channel and watch a program times and times. You do not believe how much such a simple method can help you in continuous learning of English and you will get improved several levels even before you notice.

But, To keep up the learning you need to motivate and reward yourself and that is when second sheet comes in handy. As you see it is a very simple page as well. At the end of each day you can draw a bold line at the down part of the words you learned that day in "New Words" Sheet, simply count the number of words that you learned and entered in the file during the day and write the number in "Word Count" Sheet. You can monitor your progress continuously this way.

You may want to put some milestones for your self and give some rewards to yourself. Don't consider the milestones not too hard or too easy to reach. As a sample:
- Milestone 1: Learn 100 new words...
- Milestone 2: Learn 300 new words...
- ...

You can expect that you could feel the change with learning each 1000 new words. Just keep up, be patient and well,... Don't miss any of the parties.
