Learning Spanish for Kids Top Preferred Methods

In this post I will review the different learning Spanish for kids methods. As a fluent Spanish speaker I will share my experiences which were sometimes painful, time consuming and completely unproductive. I will also take a look at some of the working methods.

I'll start with the working method first:

I think the most effective method for learning spanish for kids is games software.
Children can pick up a language in a matter of weeks. This ability combined with their love for interactive games makes Spanish software the best method of education, at least in my view.

While selecting the software I wanted something which has these qualities: engaging, fun, very interactive and user friendly (so as not to confuse the young minds). By chance I read a quote in USA today that goes a little something like: "If there was an Academy Award for children's software, "Mia the Kidnap Caper" would win".

I bought it and it became an instant hit with the kids, they were able to learn a very large amount of Spanish words in a short period of time. The software works like a story book where the kids follow along with a character called Mia. The software is very cheap and you don't have to read along with the kids so it's a very good time saver (of course you may choose to follow the story with them if you want).

Now a little about the not so great methods which I have also tried:

You can also try sites which offer learning Spanish online for kids, but they are less engaging and kids get easily bored with them.

Learning Spanish for children can be accomplished in a number of other ways, if you are an extremely wealthy person and don't worry much about your child's security in a different country I would suggest immersion courses. I did not go this route because courses in Spain can cost up to 12,000$ for 4 weeks plus I don't want to lose sight of them while they are learning Spanish for kids.

I tried teaching my children using text books such as Spanish for dummies and using cartoon text books. I quickly gave up on this method because it is extremely time consuming and my children looked very annoyed because they don't want another teacher after school they want a regular mom.
