Leica - History
Steeped in legend of almost mythological proportions in the photographic world, the Leica camera is the tool of choice of many discerning photojournalists and enthusiasts. It is the tool responsible for capturing some of history's most iconic and memorable images. The first production Leica, based on an innovative design by Oskar Barnack, was launched at the Leipzig Trade Fair of 1925. Today, although removed from its original home in Wetzlar to the small town of Solms, Leica Camera Ag still manufactures analogue film cameras. In 1996 it moved into the world of digital capture with the launch of a professional studio scanning camera, but it was not until 2006 that it produced the first digital version of its famous analogue rangefinder cameras.
