International Friendship DAY is the first Sunday in August every year. For 2009, International Friendship Day is on Sunday August 2. The International Friendship Day Lens Contest will begin today (July 1, 2009) and we will accept entries until August 31, 2009. At that time the votes will be counted and the judges will make the final decisions. Our Judges Panel (To Be Announced) will be different than it was for the International Friendship Month contest to allow our February Judges the opportunity to Enter the contest. :)

What is International Friendship Month? 

"It may be noted that some associations celebrate Friendship Day in an entirely different time of the year and with different customs. For instance,

*National Friendship Day is on the first Sunday in August.

*Women's Friendship Day is on the third Sunday in August

*International Friendship Month is February

*Old Friends, New Friends Week is the third week of May

However, what is remarkably same is the idea behind the celebration of the day. Everywhere, people express love for their friends and cherish their presence in life.~According to Friendship Day Org

Celebration of Friends and expression of cherishing their presence in our lives! We can celebrate friends EVERYDAY of course and should. But, dedicating a day, a month, a week, or even a moment in time is such a delightful way to extend our appreciation for our friends, for friendship, and to promote friendships.

You Can Dedicate a Lens to a Friend or a Group of Friends



International Friendship Month is a time to celebrate our friends near and far. The world continuously becomes smaller as we connect with each other all around the world. And, with the increasingly easy to use social media networks, we can connect with several people from vastly different parts of the globe at the very same time.

I have received dozens of messages about the Voting Arrow Icon ...
I created the instructions (above) and then the screen shot (also above) then discovered that the ARROW was NOT on many visitor's screens.

Thank you Ann, This appears to be an issue with Internet Explorer 6 (IE6). I have heard that the same visitors who cannot see the voting arrow icon while logged into Squidoo in and IE6 Browser are able to log out, and log back in using Firefox (FF). I understand this is perplexing and I have submitted a report to the Help Me section of SquidU Forum.
Hopefully we will have a reply soon and will have resolution ideas.

I am using IE7 and do not have this issue. For visitors who would like to resolve this by changing browsers (if you do not already have FF or consider an update to the IE7 version) please be sure to look at other technical aspects if you are not aware of them already. I am not a computer technician so I would not recommend any changes without consulting with a tech about your system.

If you have IE6 and FF, the FF has been working best for locating the Voting Arrow Icon on this lens.

    Deb... had intended to get an entry in this contest on such a great topic, but time ran out on me. Have renewed some wonderful old friendships and met a good number of new friends in my 2 months on Squidoo. Have visited and voted in most all the categories and hope to finish prior to succumbing to the sleep monster! You, Joan, Ohme, Mimi and others continue to host, and write lenses and tweet,etc at such a high level of quality and energy that it's amazing to me! Hope it's contagious!     I have just submitted my latest lens which just happened to turn out to be a friendship lens; I did not realize I was creating a friendship lens as I worked on it. It is the second of my lenses about the Canadian Tulip Festival and it turned out to be about the amazing and enduring friendship between the Canadian and Dutch people that started in the Second World War. That means that this friendship has lasted for more than fifty years. I hope it will live on for fifty more.

    I have tried voting several times, but can not see any arrows beside any of the entries as your example shows. I am using Internet Explorer, and decided to try FireFox. When I did that, I could see the arrows, but not when using Internet Explorer. I'd bet there are many potential voters who also did not see the arrows when using Internet Explorer.
