How to Tweak Your Squidoo Lens

Ranked #4,502 in Squidoo Community, #321,660 overall

"The End" is just The Beginning

Every good writer knows that the story isn't finished just because they've gotten to the end. In fact, "The End" is really just the beginning.

After a story is written down, the author needs to go back in and edit, edit, edit. Writers need to look for typos. They need to look for redundant words. They need to check their grammar and they need to make sure that what they have written down clearly explains what they really meant to say.

In other words, the finished story needs to be polished in order to make it shine.

Squidoo lenses should be treated in the same way.

After you've finished the first draft of your lens, you should go back in and take a closer look at it. Try to see it as your reader would, then give it the final tweak it needs to take it from an average, everyday lens to one that truly sparkles, shines, and screams out to the world READ ME!

Check For Generic Titles

Good Squidoo lensmasters always remove the generic titles from their lenses, (New Amazon Spotlight, New Poll Module, New Guestbook) but sometimes, in the heat of the moment, we forget.

It happens to all of us at one point or another, that's why it is so important to go back and check all of your titles. The easiest way to check for this is to use the Table of Contents module. The generics will stick out like sore thumbs.

Check for Spelling Errors and Typos

Spelling errors and typos are not always very easy to see after you've just written something. Your mind knows what you meant to say and for some reason your eyes can sometimes see it as correct, even if it's really wrong.

The best way to edit for speling errors and typos is to leave the lens sit for a day, (or in the very least an hour), and then come back to it with fresh eyes.

Of course you could always use your wordprocessor with spellcheck on to set up your writing first. That would work too.

I try to create an ambiance with all my lenses. I think of them as stores that people actually walk into. I am not genius at this in any way which is why I am always tweeking them.

Seem I can't leave a lens alone. I tweak some lens too much and they're begging to be left alone :) I can read something a dozen times and weeks after it's published I find an error.

Some lenses i will tweak everyday, and others longer. It just depends on how the lenses are performing.
