I also want to caution against using auto updates for your Squidoo lenses on Twitter. Imagine how annoying it is for your readers when they have you and other lensmasters leaving the same generic message every time they make a simple update. Instead, make a personal message in your tweet and this will be more likely to get a click through.

I also wondered what the point of Twitter was, but part from the Web 2.0 thing that you mentioned, I find it useful to get reminders and updates to my mobile phone from the likes of the BBC for Formula 1 Grand Prix, The Daily Politics Show and the BBC Red Button.

- Great lens for newbie and oldie alike. I have already emailedl this to some whom I want to start squidooing and made this a fave so I will have access to it for reminders now and then. As a Californian who comes home from a trip on the I-5 hating traffic; I also recognize as an blogger and lensmaster how much I need Traffic. So my solution is to spend less time on the I-5 and more time online driving the sites you have suggested here. Thank you. 5 Traffics, 1 fave, a blue bird and when my new lens about Squidoo is published there will be a lensroll. Great lens.

- I've been going down the list, checking your profiles with the intent to follow you, but some of you have put stumbling blocks in the way that might affect others who want to follow you. Some of you have default pictures. Some of you have not mentioned much about yourselves -- not even your location or that you are a squid. If I had not seen you on this list, I would not know I had anything in common with you. That is especially true of those of you who hide your tweets, as well, and make me ask if I can see them. One of you had an entire profile of tweets on one subject I wasn't interested in, and since that left me with the impression you never talked about anything else, I left without following. If you want followers, have some variety in your tweets, interact with others, and give them enough information about yourself in you bio to let them see what you have in common. Now I'll continue down the list until I fall asleep.

- BarbRad is absolutely correct. I rarely will follow anyone if their tweets are only reading - "I just updated my squidoo lens squidoo.com/xxx It is rather boring. On the other hand, Barb, are you really interested in what all 1,101 people that you follow have to say?
Just saying there are a couple of ways to look at twitter, some want to have the biggest group of followers as possible so that their tweets can reach more eyes and hopefully get more clicks, and others want it for more social reasons. That trick for each of us is finding the line that works for us. Good points though Barb and I do agree with you.

- Thanks for all the good tips, Jeff. I've done just 10 lenses since joining Squidoo and have been so busy learning HTML and other helpful tips, I haven't done much promoting yet. So now I'm gathering information on how to 'promote'. I always leave 'real' messages with any updates I put on Twitter and/or Facebook because it IS annoying to get just a 'generic' message, leaving you no idea what the URL is even for! Don't do the auto post from Squidoo to twitter. Instead make it a custom comment though your twitter account. It will increase your clickthru rate and it will keep your twitter posts from looking spamy from all being the same.

I've bben on Twitter 6 months. If I get an email that someone is following me, I follow them. Whatever following is.
I know I very rarely look at my own page and never at anyone else'. Why would I?
I don't know any of these people so they are obviously not friends. They are just anonymous computers.

- You have to understand how social sites like this work. People are not going to do what you want just because you post it on Twitter. You have to post regularly and build a following. No one wants constant spam from a person on twitter, but if you add good info and an occasional link you will get traffic. Many of the most successful lensmasters understand this and practice this method.

- NOT TO BE diffficult, BUT I checked out Twitter and didn't see how that will drive traffic to my lenses any more than registering with any of the ten trillion other services that people use. CLUE US IN! I can't keep up with emails as it is. Who needs ANOTHER way for everyone and anyone to pitch me things. Or did I MISS the point?
