An Eklectik Lensography

Hello everyone and Welcome to 2Eklectik's Lensography.

I took this picture of the Empire State Building as I was leaving Macy's on a recent trip with the kids to see Santa. Living on Long Island we are fortunate to be close enough to the greatest city in the world that we get to experience so many things that others only see on tv (or online). Aside from special trips to specific museums or Broadway plays, some of our favorite reasons for regularly visiting Manhattan are:
    The Rockerfeller Center Christmas Tree
    The American Girl Place
    Yankee Stadium
    The Hard Rock Cafe
    The Museum of Natural History
    Central Park
    Bryant Park

This is one of the reasons you'll see why my user name is so appropriate. Although I haven't written lenses on all of these topics, and many of my lenses have nothing to do with New York City at all, my lenses do cover an eklectik range, some of which you will hopefully find interesting.

For The kids

This was the first lens I ever published, and knowing my daughter, and her love of dolls, I expect to have plenty of new content for a long time.

Walt Disney World Lenses

The first time I ever visited Walt Disney World in Orlando I was in my mid thirties. I figured I'd go to say I'd been there, since I thought it was mostly for kids. Several years, and 6 return trips later, I still love the variety of attractions, and all of the details that make it the best theme park in the world. I can't wait until the kids get a little older so we can take the behind the scenes tour. These lenses are about some of our favorite attractions.

Walt Disney World

General Tips & Reviews

Having been to Walt Disney World several times in the last few years, it's becomming more familiar every time we return. As a result, we've developed some tips for getting the most out of our vacation time. There are also certain things about Disney that just love, and had to write about.

Star Wars Lenses

I've always enjoyed science fiction. Star Wars is more than just really cool special effects, it's a great story that appeals to us because we can relate to the characters. It's much more than good vs evil. It's about believing in yourself, doing what is right, sacrificing to help others, and many more of the values that we believe in. Besides, since my kids also love the movies I've seen them hundreds of times each.

Healthy Cooking & Nutrition

Having twins not only means I don't get as much sleep as I used to, but that I've also learned more about nutrition and preparing healthy meals. Before I got married my idea of a healthy meal was a large bowl of salad (half head of iceberg lettuce, sliced cucumber, bacon bits, crutons, cubed cheese, and 1/2 bottle of blue cheese dressing), all washed down with Classic Coke. My habits changed rapidly after getting married, and even more after having kids. Not only do I want them to grow up healthy and strong, but I want to make sure I'm around long enough to enjoy watching them grow up.

General Cooking Lenses

I have always loved to cook a variety of different types of food. Being married and having children now means that I can no longer cook whatever I like, but have to make something for everyone (although I can usually find a reason to add some hot sauce onto what I'm having). In addition, it also helps to make it nutritious.

Cooking Apparel

Living on your own means you either learn to cook, or get used to frozen foods and take out. When I cook I tend to have alot of things going on at once, at I'm sinc eI;m prone to the occassional accident (spill), it only takes 1 ruined shirt and pants to know that if you want to stay clean - cover up.

Golf Putting Improvement

I've been playing golf since I was 16 yrs old. I saw a tournament on TV and thought to myself, that looks easy. With a set of garage sale golf clubs, a book from the library, and an empty high school field I was ready. It wasn't until some 20 yrs later, frustrated at not being able to get any better (low 90's) I finally broke down and took a few lessons. I found out that my swing was fundamentally sound, but I had never learned to putt properly. Shortly there after, my scores were in the mid to low 80's.

More Golf Related Lenses

I learned to play golf on all 5 courses at Bethpage State Park. My friend and I would typically play which ever course had the shortest wait. One day it was the Black Course. We got to the first tee, saw the sign, and thought - how bad can it be? Several painful hours (and many lost balls later) I couldn't wait to try it again to see if I could do better. Later, when the US Open came to Bethpage, my 'hobby' as a USGA Volunteer started.

College Sports

More years ago than I care to admit, I was an undergraduate at Georgia Tech, who's sports teams compete in the ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference). For those who are unfamiliar with college sports, the ACC is the home of the Battle for Tobacco Road, with some of the best college basketball teams in the country. Not only that, but I got to experience, first hand, what makes college rivalries so great. My two favorite college football teams are still Georgia Tech and whoever is playing against Georgia.

(ok, here's a hint: when I was an undergraduate, Michael Jordan was playing basketball for UNC).

Other Sports Lenses

I've been around sports all my life. From Little League baseball and Conference League footbal at 8, to a wrestling scholarship to college. It now appears that my son has the same love of sports that I do.

So You Want to Fight?

Being a typical 'c' type personality, I'm usually very accomodating and try to make everyone happy. But there are certain times when you just have to take a stand for what you believe in. Disagree, chime in and prove it!

Flatware & Appliances

This group of lenses is an off-shoot from my love of cooking. If you want to do something good, not only do you have to practice, but you also need to have the proper equipment (and know how to take care of it). About kitchen appliances, knives and silverware.

The Beatles

My favorite band of all time.

Like most people there are some songs I enjoy more than others (Can't Buy Me Love, I am the Walrus, A Day in the Life), bu tI have no problem listenin gto any of their albums. Sure they changed the shape of modern music. Their accomplishments were (and still are) unparalleled. That's because they performed some of the best music ever.

Today, even my kids sing along.

Other Music Related Lenses

I really enjoy music. Though some of it is popular (who doesn't like the Beatles), I also enjoy lesser known artists. Similarly, I'm also interested in people who, might not be musicians, but have had an influence on music.
