Leola Pennsylvania Food Auction

The Amish Bring Food To Auction
The vegetable and fruit auction in Leola Pennsylvania is filled with fresh produce that has a tremendous amount of vitality.
Just look at this food. It is alive and seems to jump out of the page to greet you!
This is Lancaster County, the best non-irrigated farmland in the world. It has a bounty of fruits and vegetables this time of year. The food is so plentiful this season that the cost goes way down because supply exceeds demand.
We bought dozens of ears of corn for just pennies the other day and took them to homeless shelters. The corn was delicious, but we certainly could never have eaten all of it. We froze a goodly amount.
But the rest went to feed the hungry.
Lancaster County is known for its corn and because we've had so much rain this season, the corn is a deep green color and stands straight up to kiss the sun.

The Tomatoes
This year we are drying tomatoes in our deluxe food dryer, then freezing them, after most of the moisture is out of them.
You might think we wouldn't need or have a garden because of the proximity of this wonderful auction. But why wouldn't we? Food is everywhere. Working with the rich earth here is impossible to give up. It has a rich and luxurious smell, and the bounty of earthworms points the way to a robust and thriving eco-system!

The Complete Guide For Creating A Bountiful Garden
Water Melon
Oh the sweet watermelon that we love to carve up for an outdoor picnic!
The seedless variety, as I think is pictured here, makes for an easier foraging experience, but I still love the melons with seeds.
Reminds me of my childhood!!
Green Beans
Oh the wonderful green bean!
Our dogs especially love green beans. We have a bounty of stinging nettle all over our property, too, which I dry and add to the dog food we prepare every day.
Nope!! No store bought dog food for these dogs when you have the best food on the planet everywhere we go!!

Potatoes
Ah, the potato! The root vegetable that feeds so many so well! I can't help but think that all the foods listed here are comfort foods. We thrive on these foods. Vegetables and fruits are the main staples of everyday life and most of us reading this lens were raised eating them. And whenever I was sick, I'd always break my fast with the simple baked potato.
Still do!
Red Peppers
These peppers are to die for, and I do not say those words lightly. They are luscious and almost seductive, richly luxurious and appealing to the senses. Stuffed with meat or tofu, or used in a stir fry or casserole, these peppers round out the meal and make it possibly the best thing you ever ate in your life.
Barefoot and Free
The Amish are known for going about all of their business without footwear of any kind.
They also have tough feet. And most of the Amish are very healthy, except for congenital weaknesses that plague some but not all.
All of the pressure points on the body are reflected on the feet. And going without shoes means the foot is continuously being massaged.
Good health is the result!

Onions! My Favorite Food!
These onions look scrumptious! I could eat them morning, noon and night! They go well especially in all Italian, Mexican and Indian dishes; in fact I can't think of any ethnic food where an onion does not belong--at least as far as I am concerned!!
Chinese Cabbage
This cabbage does not look to me to be the common Chinese Cabbage that one generally sees in Chinese grocery stores. I think it is a different variety, more lacy and delicate than what I am used to, anyway.
Red Rasberries
These are undoubtedly the most beautiful raspberries on earth! Put them on your morning cereal AND your evening ice cream, as well as devouring a few handfuls throughout the day! The sheer plenty is enough to really know that lack or even hunger is simply not possible.

- Love these Fresh Fruit and Fresh Vegetable photos from the Leola Pennsylvania Food Auction. So, is a Food Auction the same thing as a Farmers Market? Our garden is supplying us with some wonderful corn and tomatoes. I love that the Amish go barefoot. I sure do like to go barefoot and stay that way in the house all the time.
