Leonard Cohen Poet, Writer and Singer

Melancholic Messiah Leonard Cohen, writes his words from the very depths of his soul. He is one of the most profound modern day poets. Here are his lyrics to Hallelujah. A song which took him almost five years to perfect.

Originally 80 verses long, Hallelujah is considered one of the greatest songs of all time.

Included here, is a short biography, Hallelujah Lyrics, Youtube of Leonard Cohen singing Hallelujah, and pictures of the poet.-

A Poet of our Time

Canadian Poet, Leonard Cohen has been called a modern day Messiah. There is something very spiritual about him, almost religious. Retreating from the world into self reclusion, Cohen became a Zen Buddhist and turned his back on his music for the last ten years. His career spans around 50 years, during which time he has created some of the greatest lyrics every written.

His songs are merely his poetry set to music; He is a Rock Poet. Ripped off from his fortune and retirement fund by a former manager, Kelley Lynch, who sold the publishing rights to his back catalogue, to Sony, including the truly amazing song, Hallelujah. Cohen has now been forced to face his public and tour the world at the age of 73.

What a rare treat for his fans to see this living legend, Canada's Poet Laureate, performing live. Leonard Cohen will go down in the history books as one of the greatest poets of our time and his song, Hallelujah, one of the greatest songs of all time. -

Leonard Cohen - Various Positions

Leonard Cohen - Hallelujah Lyrics

- Hallelujah -

Now I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you
To a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Baby I have been here before
I know this room, I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew you.
I've seen your flag on the marble arch
Love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

There was a time you let me know
What's really going on below
But now you never show it to me, do you?
And remember when I moved in you
The holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

You say I took the name in vain
I don't even know the name
But if I did, well really, what's it to you?
There's a blaze of light
In every word
It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though
It all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah

Leonard Cohen...my friend my soul mate the voice to my anger and love. His songs and poetry have been with me in happy moments, angry moments and sad moments. Every time I read or listen to his poetry or songs I hear something new. ...Stil have not unravelled the poem "You have the Lovers" and his song Take this Waltz have heard over 100 times along with all the others. Now recently on the radio out here the song Hallelujah has been playing on the radio by Crowe, and the song cativated me imensely ...I was drawn to the words....it sounded familiar....so I looked it up and to my surprise it was you ......again. No one has taken anything from you they are too blind to see or dance the waltz.....

Leonard Cohen is indeed a legendary poet and song writer. I have been listening to his stuff since I first heard of him in the early 70's. Among my favorites are 'Famous Blue Raincoat', 'That's No Way To Say Goodbye' and 'The Partisan.'

I really enjoyed looking at this Lens!

Just listened to Leornardo Cohen song and read through his other work. He is realy good....I think its just sad that People had to rip him of his hard work. But good work never dies... He is a legend.
