Leopard Geckos Information

Now that I have some time free, I have decided to create a lens about Leopard Geckos. In this lens I will try to give you some more information about the natural Leopard Gecko habitat, care and more. Keeping a Leopard Gecko isn't so easy to take care off. Geckos are very vulnerable lizards that need special care to keep them in great shape.

Natural Habitat Of the Leopard Gecko

Leopard Geckos are native to warm, rocky deserts like in Pakistan, Afghanistan and India. However if you like to reproduce these environments in your enclosure you will need to have a lot of rocks and plants. Try to create a small cavern, because Leopard Geckos are nocturnal and they live a major part of their life underground.

When setting up your enclose for your Leopard Gecko you need to keep in mind that more then 60% of your enclosure needs to consist out of plants and pieces of wood. Try to minimize the use of sand to avoid sand ingestion. Create a balance between rock, wood, plants and sand and you will be on the right way to create your own natural habitat.

Leopard Gecko Books

If you're going to buy yourself a Leopard Gecko , I strongly advise you to read some books. Here I've chosen some books that could help you out. Especially Leopard Geckos For Dummies is a good book in my opinion.

It's very important to know if the plants you choose are harmful for your Leopard Gecko or not. Always inform yourself first before buying any plants. This is important if you want to keep your Leopard Gecko alive. In case of any doubt you could always ask it at the shopkeeper to see if the plant could cause problems to your Gecko.

Some Non Toxic Plants For Leopard Geckos:

- Sansevieria trifasciata
- S. t. hahnii
- S horwoodii
- S. kirkii pulchra
- Cissus rotundifolia
- climbing aloe
- Portulacaria afra
-.........................

And many other kinds of plants which are totally non toxic and safe to use in your Leopard gecko enclosure.

Leopard Gecko Food Diet

Leopard Geckos are insectivorous which means that they are insect eaters. There is a great variety of insects available for Leopard geckos. And to keep your Leopard Gecko healthy you will need to create a special food diet. Giving him from time to time different kinds of insects is a good way to maintain health.

important: all insects need to be less than the length and less then half width of his head.

Some tasty insects for your Leopard Gecko:

Waxworms: Waxworms are highly addictive for Leopard Geckos because of their high fat content. Therefore it's advisable to feed them only once a week with Waxworms.

Mealworms: An easy pray for Leopard Geckos. Mealworms are great for Geckos and they contain almost everything what a Gecko needs to survive.

Locusts: Leopard Geckos love Locusts, but because of the higher price compared to other insects it's a luxury. Locusts have a lot of protein and sometimes you could even catch them in your garden. Breeding locusts could be option if you're not in to pay for them.

Crickets: There are different sizes and colors of crickets available in shops. Each color has his own characteristics. There are faster ones and ones with more fat and proteins.
It's up to you to chose.

important: Crickets can sometimes bite your lizard! It's advisable to place some grated carrots or apple in your enclosure to focus the Crickets attention on the carrot or apple .

Baby Leopard Geckos

Baby Leopard Geckos are very little and like all Leopard Geckos super sensitive to change. Baby Leopard Geckos will shed their skin frequently while they are growing. Don't remove their shed skin because Leopard Geckos eat them because of the little quantity of proteins inside of it. Baby Leopard Geckos get fine along until they get mature. Then males can fight and hurt themselves. Little baby Geckos eat around 8-10 insects a day.

Hatchling Leopard Gecko

Here you can see a very tiny Leopard Gecko hatchling taking his first steps in the big world. Like you can see on the pictures he looks very fragile. Who knows what the future will bring for this little Gecko.

Afghanicus Leopard Gecko

Afghanicus Leopard Gecko is one of my favorite Leopard Gecko. He is part of one of the five subspecies of Leopard geckos. Discovered in 1976 near the Kabul River. Like you can see on the the picture the Afghanicus Leopard Gecko has gray, white and black colors.

Leopard Geckos As Pets

Leopard Geckos As Pets, having a Leopard Gecko as pet isn't as easy as it looks like. You will need to give your Gecko at least 10 minutes a day attention. Upkeep won't cost you to much, but before buying yourself a Leopard Gecko I would read more about the topic. Which temperature is best? What's best diet? Which Plants ? Lights? ....

Knowledge is power like most people say. Did you know that they can live up to 20 years?

Earn Your Geckos Love!

Earn Your Geckos Love is a great E-book that I bought. It gives you all the information needed about Leopard Geckos. Almost every possible problem you have about you Leopard Gecko can be resolved with this E-book. It doesn't cost a lot and it's certainly worth trying.
