Wonderful to read about your fiber crafting journey. You sure are good at it and your work is amazing. Blessings as you continue your journey into the New Year! :)

Very nice crochet work. If you ever need about a mile of straight chains, let me know. Ha Ha ha . That is about as far as I got with crochet. Once, me and my grand daughter started at opposite ends of a skein of yarn and worked our way to the center when we were on a car trip. Enjoyed your lens and best of luck with your Etsy Store and Squidoo. ~Blessed~

That caterpillar is SO comical - and cute - and cuddly-looking. Great stuff, Pat.

I love knitting and sewing. Lately I've been obsessed with glitter foam so many cute things to make, if only there were more hours in the day.
  • orange3 Nov 7, 2011 @ 9:26 am | delete
You're very talented. I'm not very good at knitting but I do try from time to time.
  • ElizabethJeanAllen Mar 29, 2011 @ 8:01 pm | delete
I'm left handed and like you, it was sitting across from someone that finally worked. I'm not good at reading patterns but I love to crochet.
  • bakerwoman Mar 6, 2011 @ 1:34 pm | delete
I love to knit and do crafting but do not have time right now. I have knitted 27 sweaters through the years and got into wool felting and made hats and purses. SInce you are an avid knitter, you may be interested in visiting The Joy of Wool Felting. Thanks for sharing. Blessed by a SquidAngel.

Great lens! I enjoyed reading about your crafting journey. I was that way with knitting - I thought I would never get it!

As you well know, I love crafts, especially knitting a sewing. I had intended on attending the Vogue Knitting Fair in New York last month with a co-worker but instead she went alone. I had hoped to write a lens about it but that will have to wait until next year when I hope to participate. My friend said that the fair was somewhat disorganized, maybe because it is something new, not sure, but she also said that she learned a few new knitting techniques which is a good thing.
  • GabrielaFargasch Feb 6, 2011 @ 7:46 am | delete
    You are very talented!!
  • wordstock Jan 29, 2011 @ 8:59 am | delete
I love all the crafts but haven't spent the time to do any of them. I have unfinished quilts in the dining room, unfinished knitted wash cloths. I have unfinished Christmas ornaments in the family room and in general, look at my projects and think I need to get them done. After reading through this lens, I feel the need to get started and at least finish what I have so I can go look at the yarn links and start a new project. Good job on this lens.
  • Tipi Dec 31, 2010 @ 8:25 pm | delete
My Mom used to knit, crochet, sew, embroider and always had several projects going. I went in other creative directions but I still love those hand made items and admire the artistry.

Just stopped by, been looking for one of your lenses that I haven't visited yet. Thought I would say hi anyway, so you know I'm thinking of you.
  • DecoratingforEvents Nov 22, 2010 @ 4:50 pm | delete
You no about my crocheting talents (or lack thereof). The plastic canvas creations look interesting though...
  • terrapin719 Nov 12, 2010 @ 9:30 am | delete
    Love your project pics :)
  • theraggededge Nov 9, 2010 @ 8:39 am | delete
This is very nice. Lensrolling to my sock knitting lens. Nope, I can't crochet yet, but am determined to learn. I want to make bags and purses. Too busy with fabric journals at the moment though.
  • chemknitsblog Nov 9, 2010 @ 4:44 am | delete
I learned to knit in 5th grade during an indoor recess from my teacher. I knit off and on for years, with high points of finishing my first sweater my senior year of high school, and then finally finishing my first afghan (after 4+ years working on it) just after college. I then discovered that I love to design and share patterns and write about the knitting process. I have also picked up dyeing yarn, and have interest in learning to spin someday (because of the amazing colorways you can create).

I still need to learn to crochet. I can do a basic border (and chain, of course), but making something more than 1 row hasn't come naturally. I think for crochet I need to keep the tension MUCH looser than I do in knitting for a similar effect. I really enjoyed this lens, and am thinking about attempting crocheting again :)
  • hotbrain Nov 9, 2010 @ 12:35 am | delete
Sewing is an important skill, but there seems to be less interest in it these days. I don't crochet but I sure admire people who do!
  • Sylvestermouse Nov 8, 2010 @ 11:47 am | delete
You are so multi-talented! I actually knitted before I learned to crochet too. I managed to make two knitted sweaters in my lifetime:) I have heard that whichever one you do first, it is the the one you will prefer, but that is not true for me. I learned how to crochet years after I learned to knit and I actually prefer crocheting. I love all of your beautiful ETSY items! Most Excellent!
  • puzzlemaker Oct 24, 2010 @ 5:42 pm | delete
I love those moments when we "get it" like you did with Crocheting. The timing is right and our minds grasp that something we want to understand. It's good to read stories of other crafters and how we all progress through stages. I sew some, but the fiber artist in our family is our daughter who has taught herself how to knit and tat.
  • SofiaMann Oct 24, 2010 @ 5:00 pm | delete
I like all tips of crats. In the last time I am felting. Great lens.
  • BuckHawk Oct 24, 2010 @ 4:05 pm | delete
It figures you are a lefty, too! Great story of your hobby, life, and love. From a fellow lefty, left thumb up.

Thank you, I finally found a fellow "knitwit." Wonderful lens.

    * SquidAngel Blessings * for a lovely page!
  • RitaK Oct 12, 2010 @ 9:54 pm | delete
I was never successful at learning how to knit or crochet, but I loved needlepoint! Now it is glass crafts. I loved your lens and all of your finished pieces. Beautiful!
  • howdoyouspellstupid Oct 9, 2010 @ 3:23 am | delete
Great lens! I just took a Textiles Fundamentals class at school, and I learned a lot about fibers and crafting! Knitting is a lot of fun... I love making my own clothes and accessories!
  • ElizabethJeanAllen Sep 20, 2010 @ 5:06 pm | delete
I tried to vote for crocheting but I kept getting bumped off. I started crocheting a few years ago. I still sew but I prefer my crochet hook. It's been years since I've done cross stitch.
  • ArtByLinda Sep 15, 2010 @ 8:55 pm | delete
I just started crocheting again after 20 years, great information here!
  • riff999 Sep 12, 2010 @ 10:12 am | delete

Just popping back in this great lens to thank you for blessing my Pendleton Farmers Market Lens. You and your yarn spinning will sure be missed at next year's market.
  • whitemoss Aug 6, 2010 @ 3:41 am | delete
I've just taken up knitting again after years not doing it. Why did I ever stop? I love the memories in your lens. Thanks!
  • mulberry May 18, 2010 @ 6:41 am | delete
I did some crocheting and knitting years ago, I can understand why you love it. Sewing is another animal though. I WISH I could sew, but I never had the patience to learn.
  • Pastiche May 9, 2010 @ 9:19 am | delete
I love all the fiber arts, although I'm better at sewing and free embroidery than knit or crochet. I've recently started to make little crochet toys for my granddaughter along with some knit clothes. I am so happy my mother taught me to sew when I was 8 years old!
  • mbgphoto May 5, 2010 @ 4:53 pm | delete
I have done most of the crafts you have over the years, but as i get older I've gotten away from those types of crafts and I'm concentrating on my photography, both taking the photos and presenting them. Love you crochet animals very cute..

I was lucky to have been taught crochet by my mother but not knitting so I am practicing now as I also enjoy creating things like you. I enjoyed reading your yarns.

This is a superb lens on a great topic. Blessed and featured on Sprinkled with Stardust
  • dustytoes Apr 14, 2010 @ 4:12 am | delete
I have been thinking about selling on Etsy for quite a while now. I have two bags of knitting and crocheting packed away for just that purpose. I will definitely keep you in mind when I find the time to do it - that is my biggest problem- because I do want to speak with someone who has experience there.
Your crocheted critters are soooo cute! I have never attempted knitting a sweater, I can't follow a pattern. And maybe your great-grandchildren will be girls - that dress is adorable. (I dislike sewing). Wonderful lens, thanks for the lensroll.
  • LaraineRose Apr 10, 2010 @ 11:33 pm | delete
Very cute toys. I too have been a crafty person since a very young age. I love knitting the most but have enjoyed all the other crafts too. My daughter is left handed and had the same problems as you trying to learn from me. Finally someone did suggest that she sit opposite from me and she did fine then. 5*s and favorite for this lens. SUPER!
  • WindyWinters Apr 7, 2010 @ 12:24 pm | delete
Wonderfully crafted lens. Your crochet critters are too cute. I was crafty as a teenager and young adult but I did more sewing than knitting or crocheting. I bought some yarn to knit scarfs about a year ago...oh, dear! Really enjoyed learning about your crochet hobby! :)
  • TheWhistler Apr 7, 2010 @ 9:27 am | delete
I use to do all of these crafts when I was a teenager, but feel away from it. However, my sister is really into crafts and she is very talented. Thanks for the lens.
  • BevsPaper Mar 17, 2010 @ 4:57 pm | delete
Your little crochet critters are just adorable. Love the title you chose too! Very clever! You know I never really thought about a left handed person having to convert the patterns to knit. Looks like crochet was where you were meant to shine anyway. Great lens!

Luv this lens. Thanks for sharing your love for fiber arts with us. I've been looking in to plastic canvas..maybe I'll have to give it a go.

I loved reading about how you became interested in fiber crafts and how you moved from sewing to knitting to crochet. Excellent lens!
  • Mahogany Feb 2, 2010 @ 12:54 am | delete
I wish I knew how to sew... being able to express things through clothing design is something I admire folks who can for. Great lens - maybe I'll order that book :).
  • scarywoodwitch Feb 1, 2010 @ 8:55 pm | delete
Excellent lens, I wish I was good at knitting and or crochet!
  • Ramkitten Feb 1, 2010 @ 3:04 pm | delete
I've never had a knack for knitting, sewing or crocheting, though I've tried all of the above a number of times. I don't know if it's a lack of patience or no natural talent (or both, more like), but I sure admire those who are not only good at it but have the stick-to-it-iveness to complete a project. I can barely even sew on a button.
  • SoyCandleLover-Maker Jan 27, 2010 @ 10:13 am | delete
Thanks for sharing. Your critters are too cute. :D

    What a fun lens!
    Blessed!

This is a very nice lens. I lensrolled it back to my "baby bootees" lens and I'll feature it in this lens, too, if you don't mind.

These are soooo cute! :) I'm envy! I can't do that! LOL Maybe some day in the future.... When I'm old and gray.... :)
  • arncyn Jan 18, 2010 @ 5:37 am | delete
I enjoyed reading your fiber arts journey story (love the title!) - you sew & crochet so well, I can only hope I can learn to knit that well too in the future (my adventures in knitting had only just begun)! I also thought it was cute that you held on to your daughter's dress, only to find out that you'll be blessed with grandsons instead! *blessed*
  • Wednesday_Elf Jan 18, 2010 @ 9:31 am | delete
You're so sweet, arncyn. Thanks so much for the lovely compliments and the special 'blessing'.
  • Pukeko Jan 18, 2010 @ 4:16 am | delete
Interesting. I am very limited in these yarn skills. I can knit scarfs and crochet beanies. It used to be my winter hobby until Squidoo took over!
  • bygproductions Jan 17, 2010 @ 10:04 pm | delete
Crochet is something I hope to get back to when I finish the quilt squares I need to do.
  • AddaptAbilities Jan 17, 2010 @ 9:07 pm | delete
I generally lack the patience for fiber arts, but even that made me the first woman in my maternal line not to fail sewing in home ec :) I really admire people who have the patience to sew and knit.

I love to crochet! Thank you for the info on selling on Etsy.com, it is something I am very interested in. Very nice lens!

Thank you, mistyriver. Glad you enjoyed this lens. Let me know if I can answer any questions about opening a shop on Etsy. If you join and want to join a 'team', we have a fun one I belong to called 'EtsyHookers' .... we all 'crochet' :).

Love your yarns about crafting with yarn! I especially love your Crocheted Critters. I've never mastered the art of crochet although I used to knit (I'm right handed so I didn't have your problem!)

Oh I used to have such fun with plastic canvas! It might be time to try that again with 7 year old granddaughter! I have enjoyed crochet and knitting and cross stitch over the years, but never became an expert at any one - I just enjoyed. Your creations are lovely!
  • OhMe Jan 16, 2010 @ 6:16 pm | delete
I really admire your talent and what you can do with yarn. Your crocheted critters are precious and I love the South Carolina Coaster you did for me using the Plastic Canvas. Your talents have spilled over to lenscrafting and this one is very good.
