Why life is too short
Life is too short. We spend a lot of time these days creating content. In our homes, at work and in our businesses, we get creative. And sometimes (but I don't like to admit to it) I just do work. Where do I store all my creative content and work?Well, at home, a lot of it is on my home computer. In my small business, my important stuff is on my business computers. I know what I store - pictures of my kids growing up, the funny moments, the special events, cousins and friends, and so much more. I have several short movies of my wife learning to ski - what a great adventure!
More seriously, I have our household financial information and lots of e-mail too! On my small business computers I have it all - creative work produced for clients, course work from training and educational courses we developed, financial information, customer records, e-mail, contact lists, letters, spreadsheets, presentations, training movies, product demos, and much more.
What do you store? Do you store e-mail and contact lists? Do you store photos or movies from your digital camera? Do you have songs on your computer too? What about your browser favorites? What would you do if you lost your browser favorites or pictures or music? What about all the other content on your computer?
Is my computer safe? No! Do you know someone whose hard drive crashed? Do you know somebody who had their laptop stolen? Do you know somebody who deleted or changed the wrong file? Do you know somebody who lost valuable content? Everyday, too many people lose their precious memories.
Instead of recreating lost work, what would I rather do? Well, my wife and I took up skiing. I would rather spend time on the slopes with my wife. My son has been learning to ski too. Spending time creating new great adventures is where I would rather be. How about you? Where would you rather be?
What do I do? I use an online backup service. An extension to My Computer provides me all the control I need to backup my content online and get it back from any disaster. An online backup service should be easy and automatic.
Life is too short to re-create our valuable content. How would you feel if you lost all your family photos? How would you feel if you lost all your financial records? What about that essay you have been working on for weeks? Life is too short to even worry about losing our valuable content. Online backup is a great answer to these avoid worrying about these questions.
Your precious memories cannot be recreated. Life is too short to do your work over again. Protect your memories with online backup.
Tell me what you store on your computer. Tell me what you would rather be doing.
Take care.
-Jordan.
Life is too short to lose this adventure

A quick shot from up top! Creating content from the top of the Canadian Rockies. I took this photo on May 15, 2008 at the top of Sunshine Village, Banff, Alberta, Canada. I use an online backup service to protect this photo.

- Nice lens Jjanisse,
I agree we should all be using offsite storage to avoid the stupid types of losses like theft or electrical surges. I work in data recovery and these days almost half the cases I see involve both the original drive and a backup device. People seldom consider that a single power surge or dropped laptop bag can destroy their backup along with their original.

- Well, until one experiences a hard drive crash, one has NO idea what a cumbersome and exasperating task it can be to return to square one. I've been there and done that!

No Human Casualties, but What About the Luggage?
When US Airways Flight 1549 went into the Hudson River last month, it gave William Wiley, an engineer at Software Associates, a new meaning for the term "computer crash."

Homemade DVD's: Going, Going, Gone?
Jeez Louise. A conference organizer asked if I could put together a DVD loop of my funniest Web videos, to play in the registration area while attendees stand in line. No problem, I thought: I've got all of the original iMovie projects backed up on DVD, in clear cases, neatly arrayed in a drawer next to my desk. (My hard drive wasn't big enough to hold those 50 videos a year.)
Guess what? On the Mac I use for video editing, most of the DVD's were unreadable. They're less t.....0 points

In Praise of Great Technology: Online Backup
On October 17, 1989 at 5:04 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time I was in a store in Sebastopol, CA, staring at a blender on a shelf; I was considering buying it so my son at UC Santa Cruz could make fruit and vegetable drinks. Suddenly the blender seemed to come closer to me, recede, and approach again. My first thought was, "Boy, do I need new contact lenses." Then I looked down the aisle and realized all the display shelves, with their contents, were waving back and forth. Ah. So. Earthquake.0 points

Going Skiing - First Trip 2008/2009 Season
November 29, 2008: WOW! We had two great days of skiing. I took lots of pictures and made a few movies. I will be downloading them all when I get home. I love to make new content. I will post a few of the good ones. The early conditions at Sunshine Village are great! When we left they were getting a little dusting of snow. So things will surely get even better as the season progresses. Not sure where ski trip number two will be yet.
I am definitely going to protect this content. If you have content to protect, check out backup.jmjgroup.com.
