Lilith Fair

Lilith Fair was a music festival started by Sarah McLachlan to celebrate women in music. The festival traveled across the United States and Canada during the summers of 1997, 1998 and 1999. $1 for each ticket sold went to a women's charity in the area of each venue. The festival raised more than $7 million for various charities.

I went to one show each year. Each time I picked the closest venue where the Indigo Girls would be playing, which never ended up being all that close. The fist year I drove from Albany to Montreal's Stade DuMaurier for the August 17th show. The next year from Albany down to the Jones Beach Amphitheatre in NY for the July 15th show. And the farthest trip of all from Boston to Toronto's Molson Amphitheatre for the August 21st show the last year of the tour.

10 years went by without a new Lilith Fair. I was hoping that it would be revived one day and I got my wish! I went to the August 1, 2010 show at the Comcast Theatre in Hartford, Connecticut. Sarah has said 2010 was the final year of Lilith.

Village Stage Performers

There were 169 artists/bands who got to play on a Village Stage. Most were locals of the venue. Out of all of them only two got to play during two years of the tour.

Jennifer Kimble
Maren Ord

Four were chosen to be on the Lilith Fair New Music Sampler(1998)

Anggun
Emm Gryner
Joan Jones
Bic Runga

And a few others worth mention I think

Christina Aguilera
India Arie

Great lens, Christene! I've always been a big Sarah McLachlan and Shawn Colvin fan myself and went to a Lilith Fair show in Texas. I always wished, however; that they would've been able to get Tori Amos to tour with them too!
