Little Bear & Family

Little Bear: He lives in the woods with Mother Bear and Father Bear, and goes on adventures nearly every day with his friends from the forest.

Little Bear is a sweet, low-key show with lots of wonderful relationships. Little Bear and Mother Bear sew a doll together. Little Bear and Father Bear go fishing. Mother Bear and Father Bear walk and talk and laugh together. It's nice to watch.

Friends like Duck, Owl, Hen, Cat, and others contribute more to the great interactions, and make his many adventures more exciting.

Opening of each Little Bear episode.

This video shows the opening sequence, with all the regular characters and the theme song. You can see what I mean by gentle and sweet by watching this.

The theme song is calm, not obnoxious at all! (Unlike some!)

Little Bear has personality

Little Bear is curious and sweet, and has a good relationship with his kind Mother Bear and Father Bear, and with his friends from the forest. They use their imagination to make stories, put on plays, or go on wild adventures.

Never scary, obnoxious or overly energetic, Little Bear stories are a welcome sound in my living room.

Little Bear DVD

Little Bear's Band is a great starting place. At 109 minutes, it includes a set of four music-based episodes, and sets on the topics of music and love. Twelve toddler-sized episodes on one inexpensive disk.
Music
When the record player gets broken, Little Bear and his friends form a band to play for Grandmother and Grandfather Bear's anniversary party. Three more fun musical episodes are included as well.
Friendship
Little Bear plays with his friend Emily, but her doll, Lucy, always wants to come, and never wants to get dirty! Little Bear and Mother Bear come up with a great solution-- a friend for Lucy. And more episodes about friendship follow.
Love
Skunk is stinky, and wants companionship. In this episode he finds love and gets married (and Little Bear gets skunked) in one of four sweet episodes about love.

Little Bear's Friends

Skeptical and aloof, Cat is always nearby the action, but not in the middle of it. He says "no" whenever he likes, and will follow it with explanations like "Cats do not swim."

Hen is very ladylike. She dreams of being a star, though her singing voice is a bit... difficult. Little Bear helped her put on a show (as "Diva Hen") and encouraged all their friends to come and appreciate it. Cat was not as cooperative as he might have been.

Hen: Birds sing. Why can't hens sing?
Cat: Because they can't.
Little Bear: (whispering) Cat!
Cat: What?

Emily is a close friend to Little Bear. Sometimes she plays with the friends as a group, but some episodes center on Little Bear and Emily alone.

In one episode, Emily brings her doll, Lucy, every they go together. But Lucy limits their fun because she needs a lot of attention, and doesn't like to get dirty. At home, Little Bear is talking with Mother Bear about the problem, and comes up with an answer! They will make a friend for Lucy.

When you want to know something, just ask Owl. Friendly, naive, but smart, Owl can be counted on in a pinch. When Mr. Skunk and Ms. Skunk needed someone to officiate at the wedding, Owl was there.

A toddler at heart, Duck always wants to be in the middle of things. She can't count very high, but her enthusiasm makes up for it. Make-believe is her specialty. One day, she pretended to be Little Bear, and got Mother Bear to throw her a birthday party!

You'll meet Monkey, No-Feet (the snake), Skunk, Uncle Rusty, Grandmother Bear and many others when you watch the Little Bear episodes.

Where the Wild Things Are

A favorite of children and adults, Where the Wild Things Are is written and illustrated by Maruice Sendak. It's a story about Max, a rowdy boy, and the scary-looking (but not very scary) monsters that he meets in his imagination. He finds that he's the scariest of them all.

This is a book for kids who enjoy monsters and growly things.

One of my favorite toys was my porcelain tea set!

I played for hours with it and had loads of entertainment feeding every other animal I had the tea and cookies I imagined in the set!

Some kinds of old fashioned fun just can't be replaced with anything else!
