Live LadyBugs - GOOD BUGS! - For Sale

Ranked #182 in Pets & Animals, #5,010 overall

They feed on aphids, leaf hoppers, mealy bugs, and scale.

Aphids eating your tomato leaves? Got you some scale? Or mealy bugs? How about leaf hoppers?

If you have a garden and you slaved and toiled over making that dirt just right, and lovingly dug holes and planted all those little baby plants, you want them safe. Right? What better way to keep a garden clean of nasty little varmints than nature's own bug eaters: Lady Bugs!! Order by the 1500's and you have plenty for the duration of your garden. Pluck out some from the container just before sundown and place at the bottom of the plants. Because ladybugs don't fly at night, they will crawl upward and stay as long as there is food. They feed on aphids, leaf hoppers, mealy bugs, and scale. As they feed, they lay eggs which will hatch and continue feeding on the bad bugs. Because lady bugs are a natural killer of bad bugs, you will not want to use insecticide on your garden while you nurture them.

Always release ladybugs in the evening because they will not fly at night and are less active when it's cooler.

Spray a 1:1 solution of water & clear soda pop on the ladybugs just prior to release. The sugar will cause the ladybugs' wings to stick together for a few days, preventing them from flying away. During this time the females should start laying eggs in your garden, and because ladybugs are territorial, those that hatch in your garden will call it home.

They eat about any bug except the valuable Lady Bugs

The Praying Mantis in the Garden

Most people think of praying mantises as pests, but that's only part of the story. Mantises eat all kinds of insects, which can be good and bad. They are great for pest control when you have a lot of unwanted insects in and around your garden, but they will eat the beneficial insects too, so you might not want to encourage praying mantises in your garden. Some people suggest praying mantises as a method of organic pest control, but you should also think about the beneficial insects that may suffer when you introduce a predator into their habitat. If you're interested in hatching a praying mantis (or a bunch) in your yard or garden, you can buy mantis eggs online.

Dr. Pye's Scanmask 7 Million Live Beneficial Nematodes - Kills Over 230 Bugs

Amazon Price: $25.00 (as of 05/27/2012)Buy Now

Beneficial Nematodes (BN) attack more than 230 kinds of soil dwelling and wood boring pests, such as flea larvae, white grubs, cutworms, corn root worms, strawberry weevils, gypsy moth larvae, cabbage root maggots, fungus gnat larvae, and many more. RELEASE: BN may be released by spraying with water, mixing with mulch and applying directly to the soil or potting mix, or injecting into burrows. They may be used any time of year, as long as the ground is not frozen. Do not release in direct sunlight, as this will kill them. See directions for details.

Depending on the species, a nematode may be beneficial or detrimental to plant health. From agricultural and horticulture perspectives, there are two categories of nematode: predatory ones, which will kill garden pests like cutworms, and pest nematodes, like the root-knot nematode, which attack plants and those that act as vectors spreading plant viruses between crop plants. Predatory nematodes can be bred by soaking a specific recipe of leaves and other detritus in water, in a dark, cool place, and can even be purchased as an organic form of pest control.Wikipedia

Red Wigglers worms

Uncle Jim's Worm Farm 1,000 Count Red Wiggler Live Composting Worms

Amazon Price: $24.95 (as of 05/27/2012)Buy Now

We ran across the Live Earthworms at Amazon and thought - why not? Let's try this. We ordered a bunch of Red Wrigglers from these folks and got them in a few short days. They were mailed in newspaper and, while I didn't count them, they all looked none-the-worse from their trip across the country from Pennsylvania. We followed the package instructions and put them in our raised beds and now - many months later - they're doing great. We feed them about every week with cutup vegetable trimmings, coffee grounds, eggshells, some wet newspaper and these guys are living large. But even better is what they're doing to our raised beds.... the soil they've lived in is soft, loamy, nicely textured, and looks and feels about ten times better than before these guys called it home. I'm actually surprised that they are still thriving - it rarely freezes here, but I thought they might dig down deep in the winter and never return... I suspect they like the diet we are giving them.

The other fun thing is that this vendor provides some great - and fun-to-read information about "vermiposting" and gardening. It almost feels like he is giving up his children for adoption and wants to make sure that they thrive in their new environment!

Start a worm composter with newspaper or shredded office paper as bedding and about one pound of redworms.

I have used the Topsy Turvy Tomatoe Planter for 3 seasons now, and will never, ever plant my tomatoes in the ground again. This product is sturdy, simple to use, and produces beautiful fruit. Because the plants grow toward the sun and never touch the ground, the slugs and other critters cannot ruin or run off with your produce. As I have already stated, I have used the same bags for 3 seasons now, and have not had any problems at all. I highly recommend this product.

My condo has a nice deck out back, and I wanted to grow some veggies. This planter is really nice, and the plants love it. Understand that with this type of planter, you do need to water about every other day.

Grow your own delicious vegetables this spring and summer, and do it stylishly with this new planter. The tomato's will grow downward as your green beans grow up!!
