My first Movie Review - District 9

My Review Of District 9

For my first review I'm going to talk about the movie District 9. I watched it awhile ago and I must say that it wasn't what I was expecting from the commercials. The basic plot is an alien craft has for some reason stalled out over a certain area in the world and we broke into it to see a bunch of mal-nourished aliens which we brought down to earth to help. The area underneath the ship was deemed District 9 because it had to be blocked off from the rest of civilization due to the aliens becoming violent after they are healthy again. So basically District 9 becomes a ghetto of sorts.

Now I'm not really trying to give the movie away its just that in my head the commercials made it look as if it was some sort of transformers movie which isn't the cast. It's more of a fake documentary type film that seems to be ever so popular lately. The story also carries out from the point of view of a man who is set against the aliens at first but forced to work with them by the end.

I guess overall it wasn't a bad movie if you like these types of movies and it has an Imbd movie ranking of 8.4 out of 10 so it defiantly isn't horrible. If this type of movie isn't your type then id probably only pick it up on one of those nights with nothing to watch. Some of the guns and military stuff is defiantly cool to watch and see how they demonstrated it within the movie.

And of course as my first post ill have to throw out this little goodie, you can watch District 9 here completely free. http://movies420.com/district-9-2009/ the only thing you have to do is fill out a short survey beforehand which helps pay for the site and keep the movies free so please just fill it out as it only takes 5 minuets and then you can see all the movies on the site.

The Stepfather

Some reviews not written by me about The Stepfather

Im about to go see thise movie but here is some other reviews about it in case you were wondering.

And..heres a short review from www.joblo.com in case you just want the run down.

The Stepfather (O'Quinn) is a man obsessed with the ideal family, his values are straight out of the 50's and all he really wants is to be a good father/husband. He's also a homicidal maniac who wipes out his family when they let him down and then proceeds to move on to another single woman with child to try again. His quest is noble, his methods deadly. He thinks he's finally found salvation in Susan his new wife and Stephanie (Shoelen) her daughter. But when Stephanie starts getting in trouble in school, giving him the cold shoulder and talking about leaving home, the Stepfather gazes at that knife and the word "kill" floats in his mind%u2026.Need a little order around here.

and heres another longer one.

"The Stepfather" is that rarity, an effective remake of a screen classic that can stand alone on its own considerable merits. Director Nelson McCormick and writer J.S. Cardone deftly reworked the 1987 original (written by Donald E. Westlake and directed by Joseph Ruben) while wisely adhering to the essence of the chilling original.

Both center on a monster with pathos, a man forever searching for the perfect family to love -- and turning into a homicidal maniac when it inevitably proves to be all too human. Terry O'Quinn was unforgettable in the original, striving to play the '50s "Father Knows Best" parent with a nerdy squareness that was darkly amusing when he wasn't terrifying.

In the new version, Dylan Walsh's crazed David Harris similarly craves to be the old-fashioned dominating patriarch but he's a different type -- handsome, sexy, smoothly forceful. He's just the man to sweep lovely, vulnerable recently divorced Susan Harding (Sela Ward) right off her feet. In no time, he's moved in with Ward, who has three children and lives in a spacious, vintage Craftsman home in Portland, Ore. Ward's ex (Jon Tenney) is not a bad guy, but his immaturity and hot temper play right into Walsh's increasing dominance. In his understated way that's just right for this version of the psychological suspense thriller, Walsh is as impressive as O'Quinn.

His Harris is a phenomenally quick thinker, able to cover any missteps rapidly, but Susan's eldest son Michael ( Penn Badgley), home from a year at a military academy, gradually finds himself growing uneasy about Harris' controlling ways. Youthful audiences can identify with the likable Badgley and Amber Heard, who plays his girlfriend, but the filmmakers don't focus on them so much as to throw off the trajectory of the plot.

Indeed, the film is all of a piece, a handsome, thoughtfully crafted production that generates a mounting terror securely anchored by assured performances, consistent psychological persuasiveness and believable dialogue. What's most chilling about "The Stepfather" is that it was inspired by an actual incident in New Jersey in 1971.
