Lola for President? No, probably not.
Lola is a name with the connotation of excessively seductive. From theater, to music, to cartoons, Lola seems to be a bit slutty. So, why would I make a page on this topic? Do I have a problem with the name Lola? Has one Lola tainted me against all Lolas?
No. I have no problem with the name Lola. I kind of like it. I don't even know any Lolas. But I do think that Lola evokes the image of a vamp, and I am a little concerned with all the babies being named Lola. Why put that on a kid? I think Lola is more of a name to take on. If your personality is Lola, then use it as your nickname, stage name, pen name. If you NEED to name your kid Lola, make it a middle name - so if their personality is Lola they can use it - if not they can make it 'L'.
Do you really think there will be a President Lola? Secretary of State Lola? etc.

Other sources, like ThinkBabyNames.com state that Lola is a derivative of Doloros, meaning "sorrows" - from Maria de los Dolores (the Virgin Mary, or Mary of the Sorrows).
Related names are Louise, Charlotte, and Carol, Doloros, and Lolita (with only Lolita coming anywhere close to the seductive nature of Lola).

Beginning in the early twentieth century, the name of Lola has gripped the imagination of directors and screenwriters and launched a cinematic tradition. The name is certainly based on Lola Montez, a nineteenth-century British woman of humble origins who used her sexuality and prevaricating charm to rise to worldwide renown as an erotic dancer and the lover of composers (Lizst) and kings (Ludwig of Bavaria), leaving disaster in her wake. - I suppose I might once have associated Lola with a sexier type of name, but ever since my little girl got into Charlie and Lola I can only visualise Lola's as cute and sweet and adorable! Controversial but fun debate :)

- Your lens did stir up a bit of controversy. Well, it's just another name with some ... interesting history. Nothing wrong with the name but, my first thought when I hear it is, frivolous. I suppose it's better than boring. However, I'm sure that the majority of Lolas are nice decent women.
