Lord Sesshomaru

Amazon Spotlight: Inuyasha Movies The Complete Set

The four Inu-Yasha theatrical features pit the cast of Rumiko Takahashi's "feudal fairy tale" against new foes: The search for the shards of the Shikon Jewel falls by the wayside as Kagome, Inu-Yasha, Shippo, Miroku, and Sango tackle these supernatural enemies.

Inuyasha, Volume 35
(Japanese Edition)

In Affections Touching Across Time (2001), the moth-demon Menomaru seeks to reclaim the powers of his father, who was defeated by Inu-Yasha's father during the attempted Mongol invasion of 1274.

The Castle Beyond the Looking Glass (2002) evokes the Japanese legend "The Tale of the Bamboo-Cutter," when Kaguya appears, claiming to be the legendary Moon Princess.

Swords of an Honorable Ruler (2003) reveals that Inu-Yasha's father, the Great Dog Demon, possessed not two but three swords: Tetsusaiga, Tenseiga, and Sounga, which are linked to Earth, Heaven, and Hell, respectively. When the Sounga is accidentally freed, its aura raises the soul of Takemaru, the samurai who murdered Inu-Yasha's mother.

The villains in Fire on Mystic Island (2004) are the Four War Gods, powerful demons on the island of Houraijima, who preserve and augment their power by sacrificing half-demon children.

The later films are darker and more violent, although the directors balance the mayhem against familiar comedic elements, especially Kagome and Inu-Yasha squabbling. The features all reflect larger budgets than the television series, as the filmmakers employ a variety of CG effects: explosions, lightning bolts, insects, monsters, and strangling tree roots. Affections Touching Across Time stands out as the handsomest of the films, with designs that suggest the woodblock prints of Kawase Hasui.

The Dog Demon Brothers

Amazon Spotlight: Inuyasha - Season 1

Based on the manga by Rumiko Takahashi, the creator of Ranma 1/2 and Urusei Yatsura, the Inu-Yasha TV series (2000) blends elements of Japanese folklore and familiar anime devices into a deftly imaginative blend of humor and adventure, an extremely entertaining series that never falls into cliche.

Inuyasha 2007 Wall Calendar

Beginning the first season's 27 episodes, Kagome Higurashi, a normal 15-year-old girl, falls down a dry well--and finds herself in the feudal past, 50 years after her ancestress Kikyo imprisoned the half-human/half-demon Inu-Yasha. As the reincarnation of Kikyo, Kagome possesses a magic jewel that greatly increases the power of demons. Kagome fetters Inu-Yasha with the help of her priestess-ancestor Kaede, and when the jewel is shattered Kagome and Inu-Yasha must ally to recapture the fragments.

The series really begins to hit its stride when Kagome and Inu-Yasha, while bickering, nevertheless prove an effective team against the demons they encounter in the Warring States netherworld. Two new characters create complications. Shippo, an orphan fox spirit, meets Kagome and Inu-Yasha in the Warring States period. A more conventional but potentially more dangerous addition is Hojo, a handsome upper classman at Kagome's school, who's concerned about her recent absences. His understated good manners contrast sharply with the prickly Inu-Yasha--just as Kagome is beginning to recognize his good points.

With InuYasha and her new friends that they meet along the way, Kagome's search for the Jewel of Four Souls begins...

Lord Sesshomaru

Amazon Spotlight: Inuyasha - Season 2

Hearts and swords are the focus of the second season of Inu-Yasha, Rumiko Takahashi's popular "feudal fairy tale."

Inuyasha:
2008 Wall Calendar

Inu-Yasha's icily elegant half-brother Sesshomaru discovers that the sword their demon father left him, the Tenseiga, is useless to him in battle. It doesn't kill, but heals--an imaginative twist typical of Takahashi. Inu-Yasha has to learn to master his sword, the Tetsusaiga, that was forged from his father's fang. When the monster Goshinki bites the Tetsusaiga in two, the addled smith Totosai reforges it, using a fang of Inu-Yasha's to join the shards. Inu-Yasha must learn to wield the newly heavy sword that reflects his increased responsibility: his father is no longer protecting him, so he must use his own strength.

Inu-Yasha also faces two powerful internal struggles. He begins to question his desire to become a full demon after he transforms into a mindless killing machine. The Tetsusaiga keeps his demon-blood in check, and Inu-Yasha is grateful for its strength. But he has no exterior support in the battle within his heart: Does he love the resurrected Kikyo, whom he adored 50 years earlier, or Kagome, who has shared so many adventures and who loves him? These struggles demand more than the battles with the evil Naraku and his avatars.

The adventures, emotional crises, and ferocious battles are balanced against the friendship and slapstick comedy Kagome, Sango, Miroku, and Shippo provide. Through it all, Inu-Yasha remains the impulsive hot-head viewers love--whom only Kagome can keep in check.

Sesshomaru and Rin

WARNING: If you haven't yet read the book, this section contains major spoilers about the relationship of Sesshomaru and Rin (ch 466 - 471).

Sesshy Rin

After Naraku, Lord Sesshomaru can be considered the evilest most cruel and cold hearted demon in the InuYasha series. His goal is to obtain the Tessaiga and kill everyone that gets between him and his goal, no matter who they are. This has resulted in the ruthless slaughter of hundreds of demons and thousands of innocent humans, including entire armies and villages with a single swipe. White Dog Demons avoid friendships with humans for a very simple reason: they eat humans and it doesn't do to make friends with your food supply.

In InuYasha chapters 129 - 131 (and TV episodes 34 - 35):

After one bloody battle, Sesshomaru's injuries caused him to retreat into the forest, where he remained until he had had time to heal. During this time a young girl, named Rin, was wandering in the forest, fell upon the sleeping, injured demon, and took care of him. Sesshomaru's hatred for humans made him cruel to the girl, but his injuries, left him with little choice but to accept her help.

Sesshomaru meets Rin

Shortly after this incident, Lord Sesshomaru's bloody reign of terror took an interesting turn, as one day he came upon a village, already destroyed by a pack of wolf demons, it's inhabitance slaughtered in the raid. Passing through the remains, Sesshomaru realized this to be the village of the little girl who had earlier helped him, upon finding her body in the ruble. For some unknown reason, Lord Sesshomaru was unable to leave the dead girl behind, and took her body with him, using his powers over life and death to bring her back to life.

Sesshomaru Bring Rin Back to Life

From that day forth, and as a shock to all those who knew of his hatred for humans, Rin became Lord Sesshomaru's constant companion. For the entire rest of the series, there is no time that you see Lord Sesshomaru without his beloved Rin. When you don't see Rin in the picture, it's because Sesshomaru has sensed danger nearby and hidden her, while he goes to kill whatever the threat was. As the story goes on, we see a change in Sesshomaru, as he goes from the fierce demon who kills everything in sight to get a sacred sword, to becoming the fierce demon who kills everything in sight to protect a human child, who is progressively becoming the most important thing in his life.

Unfortunately, Lord sesshomaru can only raise the dead once, if they die again he can not bring them back again, and now having already brought her back once, he fiercely protects Rin from anything he perceives as a threat to her.

Now skipping ahead, by about 50 volumes (yes, long running series!) to chapters 466 - 471:

As the InuYasha series draws to it's end, we see it's many characters dropping like flies, in a very Harry Potter 7 fashion, as Lord Sesshomaru and InuYasha join forces against their common enemy, Naraku. The battle against Naraku has threatens the lives of everyone, and all demons try in vain to defeat him. But only the power of the twin swords can defeat Naraku, the Tensiega and the Tessaiga.

Rin follows Lord Sesshomaru right into the heart of the battle. Unfortunately for both of them, his desire for the Tessaiga is too strong, and to get it, he tries making his own Tensiega stronger, by going to hell, but this costs him the life of his little girl Rin. Upon finding Rin dead, Lord Sesshomaru tries desperatly to bring her back once again, but is unable to. Cursing it, he tosses the Tensiega aside, saying it was not worth it's price for he had to lose the only thing he loved to get it. If you've read the book than you already know how this all turns out, if not, well, I'm not going to tell you how it ends, you will have to read the book to find out, anyways...

Lord Sesshomaru Rins Death

Sesshomaru and Rin

Does Sesshomaru ever admit to really caring for Rin?

or does he still deny feeling anything for humans?

Yes Sesshomaru does very much love Rin, and yes we do get to see him admit that he loves her... but he does not do so until after she dies. (She was murdered by his mother.)

Sesshomaru is devastated when his mother sends a Hell Hound to kill Rin. At first he thinks he can bring her back to life cause he did before, but than he finds out he can only bring a person back to life once, and he throws his sword away and leaves in despair proclaiming th that the sword is worth nothing to him, because he lost the only thing he loved.

Sesshomaru's mother, btw is never in the tv show, she is only in the book, and she never given a name, she is the gate keeper to hell and she's pure evil. Sesshy-Mom hates Rin, because she says that dog demons eat humans and tells Sesshomaru he should have eaten Rin, he refuses to kill Rin, so Sesshy-Mom sends the Hell Hound to kill Rin instead. The Hell Hound takes Rin to Hell, Sesshy-Mom laughs cause there is no way for Sesshomaru to reach Rin, than enraged at his mother Sesshomaru uses his sword to rip open the gates of hell and go to hell to bring Rin back. When he finds her, she is already dead, which at first doesn't bother him, until he tries to revive her and can't.

On the next page we see Sesshomaru throw the sword, cursing it, saying that it was worthless, that nothing mattered to him now that Rin was gone. The picture shows him cradling Rin, with his face down, he is obviously crying in this picture. It's the only time we ever see Sesshomaru cry.

Sesshy-mom has watch the whole thing from her thrown over hell, and is shocked to see Sesshomaru break down like this. When she had Rin murdered, his mother didn't take into account how much Sesshomaru loved Rin. After Rin's death Sesshy-mom, felt guilty and couldn't bear to see her son so heartbroken, so she brought Rin back to life and gave her back to him, but when she did this she also told Sesshomaru that he had become just like his father.

You really should read the book, it is so much better than the show, covers much more detail; plus the tv show ended about 1/4 way through the book, they didn't even get to the half-way point, so there is a lot more that happens that never made it into the show.

The book was written by Rumiko Takahashi in 1997, it has 53 volumes in the series, with the final volume released on June 16, 2008.

Rin

When we first see Rin, she is a ragged orphan who has been living in a tumble down shanty hut on the outskirts of a fish farm. The villagers hate and despise her and she is often beaten by them as she has to steal food from their farms because there is no one in the village kind hearted enough to take her in and feed her. She wears a ragged kimono which she apparently has worn since the death of her family several years earlier, thus is is badly worn and much to small for her. The Rin we see here, is a timid frightened girl who has not spoken a word since the death of her parents and siblings. She trusts no one and runs skittishly away when approached. She was most likely running away from the mean hearted villagers, the day she came across the wounded demon in the forest. Remembering the brutality in which her own family was murdered, she is quick to come to the aid of this strange man who appears to have been badly beaten. Though it never says, we are given the impression that 2 or 3 weeks pass before the demon recovers his wounds and leaves the forest. Upon leaving the forest and later finding the girl who helped him, now herself murdered, he revives her and takes her with him.

After Rin joins Sesshomaru on his travels we do not see either one of them in the series (either book or show) again for quite some time. When we do see them again, we see a dramatic change has taken place in Rin. Clearly Sesshomaru has been taking good care of her, as she is no longer the scraggly haggard looking girl she was when we first saw her.

The Rin we now see is a very happy, very talkative, and very active girl with bright shining eyes and a laughing smile. She is now quick to run up to every stranger and great them with her bubbling happiness. We also see that Sesshomaru has given her a pet dragon; Ah-Un, his once fierce stead, is now her devoted playmate. Besides the disappearance of her ill health, fears, and muteness, she also now wears much more regal attire, befitting one who now lives in the presence of a demon prince.
