Aerobic Exercise Patterns to Lose Weight Fast

Metabolism can take place in two ways: either with oxygen or without it, known respectively as aerobic and anaerobic. They are often used in combination with each other. The anaerobic pathway is often called the Phosphate System. This way of getting energy provides enough power for 10 seconds worth of fierce activity. Any ATP already stored in your muscles is used first. This last 2 to 3 seconds and, after this, ATP is manufactured by creatine phosphate, lasting for around 6 to 8 seconds.

After your body has exhausted this route of obtaining energy is starts using the metabolic pathway. This can be anaerobic, known as glycolysis, or aerobic metabolism. Glycolysis burns carbohydrates to create ATP and this can last for several minutes' of high intensity energy use. The side effect of this anaerobic metabolism is a build-up of lactic acid. After several minutes the body reaches the lactate threshold. This causes us to feel exhausted and to experience appalling muscle pain with a burning sensation in our muscles - most of us have experienced it at some time or other.

Lactate threshold can be roughly translated into 'give up and have a rest' in most people's vocabularies! However, if you do have the stamina to work through this, aerobic metabolism takes over. Our food is converted into fuel and, with aerobic metabolism, all the nutrients from our food are used together - carbohydrates, fats, and protein. I am telling you this so that you don't get taken in by the 'don't combine foods' fat loss remedies. Again, they have taken the concept out of context! To explain further, for long-term sustainable energy, your body can very efficiently take the nutrients from carbohydrates, fats and proteins, together, and convert it very effectively into ATP. The reason this method of metabolism isn't used immediately by the body is because it is too slow. To use this method your body has to allow the oxygen in our blood circulatory systems to take the nutrients to our muscles before your body can convert it into ATP.

As we all know, all the experts tell us that we must exercise to get our hearts pumping and the oxygen flowing through our bodies - well, that is the reason why we are told to do this. When you first start to workout, you have a warm-up session on the bike or the treadmill and, you will notice your heart starts to pump harder and you might begin to feel a bit breathless. As your breathing deepens and your heart rate increases, more blood is pumped around your body, carrying valuable oxygen to the muscles. This continues until you reach the lactate threshold and then, because oxygen can only reach the muscles at a certain speed, anaerobic metabolism kicks back in until lactic acid builds up and your exercise intensity slows down due to fatigue and the awful pain of lactic acid build-up in your muscles.
