The Loss of a Special Toy

I am the type of parent that has multiple scrapbooks, memory books, journals, keepsake boxes, and special items saved for my children.

I'll keep those items until the day I hand it all over to let them choose what they want to save - and I won't be responsible for getting rid of anything special. But something awful happened to a special lost toy one day...

"Pooh" Disappears

My child's Winnie-the-Pooh stuffed animal vanished last year. For some reason I was more frantic over finding it than my almost 3-year old son. This Pooh was special, and I'd yell it from the rooftops and sound the alarms, but I decided that Squidoo was a better option for sharing with the World that my baby's Pooh is lost, after already exhausting my resources. Maybe it will make me feel better...

I'm using this as a tribute to the silly old bear who shared 2 1/2 years of our lives with us. Every meal, nap time, car ride, shopping trip, restaurant, visits with family, and being dragged around by the neck to whichever room my son wanted to be in. The last thing I can offer is this page to print out and leave in my son's baby book to let him know that Mommy did everything she could to find his stuffed-with-fluff Pooh friend.

Pooh's Special Story

My son was 6-months old when I decided it was time to purchase his first Pooh bear stuffed animal. I took him to the Disney store, and we started looking at all the different Pooh bears. It was Pooh's 80th anniversary year, so there were very many to choose from. After showing my baby 2 of them, I was asked if I needed any help. "No thank you, I replied. I think he can handle it". Puzzled, she took a few steps back and watched me as I held up a few more bears. "What are you doing then? He's only a baby." she then stated. "He's picking out his own Pooh" I replied. "He's too young to do that," she commented, with a big smile on her face. I had her follow me around the store for 4 more Pooh bears, until I picked up a pale yellow Pooh with a light orange shirt. I showed it to my son, he grabbed it from my hands, laughed, and started gooing like crazy. Shocked, she apologized and I smiled while paying, then we went to show Daddy our new prize. It seemed like it never left his arms for the following 2 years and 4 months.

Reminder

Next time you buy one - buy 2! Our Pooh toy was limited, and I cannot find him again. I knew it was going to be special, and could have had another tucked away in a box...to replace or not replace IS the question. But it can't be answered when you don't have any available options! :-(

In Memory of Pooh

A special missing Winnie-the-Pooh

You know you are loved when...

- You're snuggled between every hug a child receives.
- You share every meal because it's dropped on your ears.
- You have your own chair next to the highchair.
- You've eaten a pea, because a child would not and "Pooh likes peas". ;-)
- You have to be captured late at night and rushed to the washer and dryer to keep your fur clean and returned in one piece before a child awakes.
- You've been to more places than most humans.
- You've been carried around to share every movie, game, toy, and activity a child experiences.
- You've been covered in sand, snow, Fall leaves, dirt, water, and juice.
- You're dressed for the Holidays, share Thanksgiving dinner, open Christmas presents, and get a free taste of Birthday cake.
- You're kissed Goodnight every night.
- Mommy is writing an article about you to make sure that you're never forgotten.

One of my son's had a favorite friend, Calvin, who was a multicolored black bird that was getting very worn. My sister, who had purchased the first Calvin was able to find "the replacement" but that didn't work. My son just carried them both around.

Hello. Did you ever find a replacement? I just thought I'd drop you a note to let you know I see one on eBay right now. The id # is 330393685413

As a Mom of 4 I understand how important these loveys become to the child and parent. It may be nice to save for him when he is all grown up.

    Best Wishes!

I did not find a replacement until you sent me the eBay listing because I had stopped looking for a few months. I made the purchase today and my now 4-year-old was thrilled to see his beloved Pooh bear after 1 1/2 years of him missing. I greatly appreciate your generosity in taking the time to find the exact stuffed animal and leaving me a comment...thank you so much! :-)

Great idea for a lens. I know this experience as I made it myself with my little daughter. Her most beloved penguin got lost and I was looking for hours until I found it in the car underneath the children seat.
