Three reasons to love Lucille Ball

1. She was funny. - THINK ABOUT IT!
Her humor was clean.
The whole family could watch it together or separately.
She was clown and the whole world loves a clown.
She enabled us to laugh at ourselves.

2. She was lovable.
For example, there was the night when Lucille Ball gave birth to Little Ricky on the "I Love Lucy" The show was the top rated show on TV for a decade.  More people watched that occurrence"Lucy" than watched President Eisenhower's inauguration the next day. So much news and politics is "heavy."  We need a counterbalance, something funny that make us all feel part of the human family.  Lucy was one of those breaks.  For a reference here you might want to read - Why Americans Hate Politics - By Keith Boykin.

3. She was strong
Lucille Ball was best identified for her job as the silly housewife in the I Love Lucy tv show.  Little recognize her as the tough secure women she was when she was off stage.   In the "I Love Lucy" show she was this classic charade of a goofy housewife that didn't do anything right, but she wasn't. Although she actually was married to Desi Arnaz, and some of the problems were aired in minor part on the screen, she wasn't the klutz she played.  This was her expected, typical woman's role on a TV show back in the 50's.

I Love Lucy is an American situation comedy, starring Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, Vivian Vance and William Frawley. The black-and-white series originally ran from October 15 1951 to May 6 1957 on CBS. The show continued on for three more seasons with 13 one-hour specials, running from 1957 to 1960, known first as The Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Show and later in reruns as The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour.

I Love Lucy was the most-watched show in the United States in four of its six seasons, and was the first to end its run at the top of the ratings (to be matched only by The Andy Griffith Show and Seinfeld), although it did not have a formal series finale episode. I Love Lucy is still syndicated in dozens of languages across the world.

The show won five Emmy Awards and received numerous nominations. In 2002, it was ranked second on TV Guides top-50 greatest shows, behind Seinfeld and ahead of The Honeymooners. In 2007, it was placed on Time magazines unranked list of the 100 best TV shows. The same year, the Washington Post named it the second best TV rerun, attesting to its longevity and sustained popularity.

Mame is a 1974 American musical film based on the 1966 Broadway musical of the same name, and starring Lucille Ball. The film focuses on eccentric Mame Dennis, whose madcap life is disrupted when her deceased brother's son Patrick is entrusted to her care. Rather than bow to convention, Mame introduces the boy to her free-wheeling lifestyle, which includes her personal secretary Agnes Gooch, "bosom buddy" actress Vera Charles, and husband Beauregard Jackson Pickett Burnside, a Southern aristocrat with a Georgia plantation called Peckerwood.  ...        (Read The Article From Wilkipedia)

MAME (1974) - The DVD

Starring: Lucille Ball, Beatrice Arthur Director: Gene Saks Rating PG

Lucille Ball - Mame
Lucille Ball is beautiful as Mame, and the whole story line is beautiful and makes you want to cry. Some of the events in this movie are not exactly suitable for children. This may be one of the best movies ever made. You'll have to see it for yourself to judge... Mame goes through so much sorrow and heartbreak throughout the whole movie, but she always is able to go through every trial that comes her way with a smile and a song. And joy in everything. You weep for her when she looses everything in the Stock Market Crash of 1929. And then her own friend gets radically mad at her, because Mame accidentally ruined her show. You are so happy when she meets Robert Preston at the store where she is working; she marries him. You weep once again when he dies by an avalanche. Another heartbreak event is when Patrick with his vicious deeds tries to run her life for her. And then you rejoice again when his little boy goes with Mame on one of her trips. This movie is a grand film to be enjoyed by one and all..

Mame

Amazon.com
The 1974 film version of Mame stars legendary Lucille Ball and is based on the 1966 hit Broadway musical, not the 1958 movie. When 10-year-old Patrick Dennis's father dies, he is sent to live with his eccentric Auntie Mame. Mame may know nothing about being a parent, but she's got love and spontaneity in spades, and Patrick blooms in the time spent with her. Though Miss Ball seems sadly miscast when Mame begins (she's too old and can't sing), by the time the movie reaches the famous foxhunt scene when Mame accidentally wins the hunt, and in turn the heart of gallant Beauregard Burnside, you start to believe Lucy is Mame.

Reprising her Broadway role (for which she won a Tony), Bea Arthur plays Mame's boozy pal Vera Charles. Songs include the now-classic "We Need a Little Christmas" and "Bosom Buddies" plus "Loving You," sung by Robert Preston's Beau and written for this movie. --Dana Van Nest
